Subject: How did I miss it?
Dear Sis,
I just learned something about my characters that I never thought of before and I’m not sure what to think or how to take it. I was told by a few people very knowledgeable on my characters that Tibbs and Tommy are in a secret relationship that they keep quiet from everyone else. Well, everyone except Amy and Birdy.
I wrote them, but I never thought about how I wrote them. I just… well, you know. And all I can see now is the moments between Tibbs and Tommy and how there has to be something going on between them; more than just boss and subordinate.
I don’t see how I missed it. Now I can’t see them any other way and if I tried to write them in a relationship, well… Not only would it ostracize some of my readers, but I know a few people wouldn't be happy if I wrote that.
I just… I guess I’m okay with it being there, but I just want to know why I never saw it.
Enough of that… How’s Europe?
Mom and Dad keep asking me to use my pull as a federal agent to check up on you. So far I’ve convinced them you’re doing just fine.
Since you aren’t going to be around for the 4th, I decided to skip the family picnic too. Tony invited everyone (Gibbs, Ducky, Abby and Jimmy) to some kind of a picnic / fireworks display he knows about. He claims it is some kind of team building thing, but I think him and the boss have plans. We’re supposed to get a new agent on Monday, so we’ll have four days with whoever it is before the holiday. I think they want to do an ‘evaluation’ of the new guy without the new guy around to hear it.
Sometimes makes me wish Kate was still alive and then we never would have had some of the problems we’ve had.
Well, I've got a game scheduled in a few minutes so I guess I'll talk to you later. Oh, Mom was asking about some pictures. Said you hadn't uploaded anything to Facebook lately, so make sure you do that so she'll stop bugging me to bug you.
Stay safe,
Tim

Tell Mom to calm down. I can't get on the internet all the time over here like I can at home. Consider this payback for what I had to listen to when you went for your training at FLETC. It was all, "Tim's learning to shoot a gun. What if he gets hurt? Why couldn't he take that computer job he was offered?"
Europe is a blast! Don't tell Mom and Dad, but I'm thinking about extending my stay. I've been talking with the exchange program guidance counselors and they think it would be a great idea for me and I could really improve on my language skills while over here.
I traveled through a town in Austria the other day. Took the attached picture. Thought you might like it. Or maybe show it to Tony. I think he would get a kick out of it.
And how could you not know that about Tommy and Tibbs. It's so obvious Tim. Haven't you looked at your fan sites any? There're posts with people talking about how Tommy and Tibbs were meant for each other. How they are different on the outside, but when you look beyond that, they are so similar. I was surprised your co-workers hadn't killed you already after I read the first book.
There's fan sites where people are writing fanfiction of your characters. You know that right? Well, I've seen plenty of Tibbs and Tommy stories posted. So they are lots of people clueing in on it.
You should really think about a way to work it in to your books. Might increase sales if you did.
Think about it…
Love,
Sarah
"Abby! Why are you reading my emails?" McGee halfway shouted as he made his way back to his computer where he had left Abby sitting for just a minute. She had shown up at his apartment ten minutes earlier and he hadn't figured out why. However, before he could question her further, she was next to him and had punched him in the arm.
"Ow! What was that for?" he squeaked out as he brought his other hand up to rub at the spot on his arm.
"You know darn well what it was for Tim. How could you betray their trust like that? I all but told Tony you would be okay with it and then you went and blabbed it to your sister first chance you got. It doesn't take an MIT degree to read between the 'Tibbs' and 'Tommy,' Timmy."
As Abby stood there, McGee could only look on in confusion. He couldn't understand what she was talking about and was about to say so when the buzzer on his door sounded in conjunction with someone rapping the 'Shave and a Haircut' tune on the door.
Then a muffled, "Open the door, Probie!" came through the door and Abby glanced at the computer and back to the door and then at McGee.
"Oops," Abby said softly and McGee left her standing by the computer with a reddening face as he walked over to open the door.
"What do you want Tony?" he asked as the door opened. Then he paused as he saw not only Tony but also Gibbs standing outside his door. "Boss?"
"We need to talk," Tony said as he moved pass McGee and into his apartment. McGee just stood aside as Gibbs followed and he closed the door feeling like everything he thought he knew was about to be turned upside down.
Note: For those wondering about the picture Sarah sent Tim, I have it posted below. I took that picture in Bregenz, Austria (where I lived for 5 weeks back in 2002). I walked underneath that thing more than once every day and it was very creepy at night. Trust me.
