You see it right away; the optimism drops right from their faces like rain down a windshield, the color disappears from their skin and whispers begin filling the already thin air between them. The nervous glances back and forth suggest someone is looking for a solution, but the closer you get, the further away they are from it.
You see immediately the fake smiles smear across their faces and the forced tones of voice very hastily trying to come up with a ragtag "friendly" greeting. There is the designee in front who has been chosen against their own will to be the one to converse whilst all the time the others are coming up with possible routes out of this un-wanted meeting.
Drama, gossip and everything in between would be avoided if people were just honest about their feelings. If you are faced with someone you don't like, all of the weirdness and falsity would be avoided with just a simple, "I'd rather not talk to you".
I cannot begin to comprehend why someone would be nice to someone they don't like. I'm in no way saying be mean or spiteful to that person, just be what you want to be, nothing. It's so much easier to not talk to that person that to forge some kind of façade to hide behind; not only does that make you fake, it makes you a coward.
But what happens when you are that person approaching the group of façade conjurors? You get that really terrible feeling in the pit of your stomach. They've already seen you, so you can't just turn away, that would be awkward. Now you have to walk up to that one person the group kind of threw in the front to have a very gauche conversation that neither party wants to have and not only that, you have to force the same veil over your face that they are forcing over theirs.
Is it a sense of common courtesy that makes us do this? I didn't think that even existed anymore. Is it that wanton for political correctness? After Eminem's outburst at the MTV Movie Awards, I highly doubt that! So what is it? What really makes people put on their Halloween masks when it's not October 31st?
People like to be something else, it mixes up their day. Not only does it avoid possible confrontation, but it also acts as a form of entertainment for some. So put on your costumes, don your masks and have a field day. I personally will just stick to being honest, it's much easier~_~_~
