Craigslist Ads

Surprisingly there were quite a few ads this nad last month with decent pay in the range of $60 to $100 a page. Considering that the majority I see were for backend work or an insulting $10 - $20/page I wondered if the warnings that have been posted contributed to it. Alas, there are still ads by big dreamers with small wallets and poor spelling. A friend wrote in to a few that didn't mention pay and asked the same questions:

Are you only seeking local artists / want to meet face to face?
What is the length and deadline of the project?
What do you plan to do with the idea, pitch to publishers, self publish, etc.?
Is this a paid job? If so is it work for hire?

Here are the ads and their replies:

I have several comic book ideas, and currently writing out one of them.
I need an artist, ideas are very welcomed. I don't believe in censorship or interfereing with the visual side (your the artist, I'm the writer).

Locals only.
No deadline.
I plan on sending it to publishers.
and not yet, only if it gets published does it pay. Til then it's just a hobby.

Seeking a skilled artist for a new comic book (Denver)
Date: 2009-07-12, 3:13PM MDT

I'm writing a new comic book which I feel is going to be cutting edge, my last artist wasn't very dedicated, and seemed to flake out a lot. If you're interested in something like this, just let me know, and I'll fill you in on all the details!

Those are all great questions. I wouldn't mind pitching the idea to publishers, but if it came down to it, I'd put the money down to self publish. I would prefer a local artist, but with the way technology is, it isn't a must. There really is no deadline, but for what I have written, it's a longer project, that could be compiled into a graphic novel. As of right now, it is not a paying job, but that could change in the coming months.

Comic book Artist (Chesapeake)
Date: 2009-07-06, 11:08AM EDT

Looking for a comic book artist/collaborator. I have written a first issue and started on a second rough copy. I have other ideas as well. I have some basic artwork but I am not an artist.

The Reply

Well , i don't know if i have an answer to all those. Its a haobby i just started cause i love comics. Its not a paid gig and i would like to get it published but not sur how to go along that route. I am up for anyone who wnts to draw and collaborate with other ideas.

I wasn't surprised. Perhaps he should have also added "Do you have an editor to fix your horrible spelling?" to the Chesapeake fellow.
