NC Soft, Fraud Central!

"It's not that they're a bad company," the woman on the phone reassured me. "It's that bad people are trying to make false charges or using fake numbers."

So the conversation with my credit card representative went. You see, NCSoft recently was moved from the list of a potential risks to “The List”. In October and this month I made a couple small purchase with the company, and each time I got a message that it was refused. A call to my bank revealed that they were concerned about fraud, and I had to assure them - after reciting to them everything from my birthday to the name of my future children -- that it was fine; it was me. Last Sunday it happened again, so, gritting my teeth in frustration I dialed the 1-800 number again. Credit Cards are supposed to make online shopping easier right? Not always in this day an age of fraud, but I thought that NCSoft was now on some sort of “safe list” for my card. I was wrong about that as well as I learned today.

A patient woman listened to me bemoan my situation, and she was surprisingly understanding, for it turns out that NCSoft is now on the big list of vendors blocked because of the number of problems they have with fraud. (I wonder if Blizzard is on that list; I should have asked.) However, I could not remove NCSoft from the list, it was either all or nothing, and if I removed the fraud protection, should anything happen I’d be liable for those charges. The solution: anytime I want to make a charge to the company in question I must call my bank M-F during business hours and have the protection removed for 24 hours, unless I call earlier to reactivate it. However, during those 24 hours I’m still liable for any false charges. Joy.

This means I can not have reoccurring subscription fees on this card -- which, if I think about it, might be a good thing and keep me from spending unnecessarily. Anyway, it’s a bother, and I blame all the cheats, scammers, and “Chinese farmers” out there. I hope your eyeballs rot and your unmentionables shrivel up. <3
