Hello, and welcome to the Photoshop Help Desk.

I’d have to say that the folk on my friendslist write good stuff, sometimes short, other times long, at times silly, and sometimes serious, but all in all it’s always something I like to read in between work throughout the day. Otherwise, I might just go insane here.

Monday afternoon I IMed Tiny Favor Dude, who I talked about a couple entries ago, and told him I couldn’t help him due to time and computer issues. He said “okay” and for a while all was quiet, but then he started asking for Photoshop tips. Okay, I can do that. I was in a good mood and helped him out, although I also told him again that I’m not a PS expert; there’s a lot I don’t know, and I learn as I go along, using Google and the Adobe PS help index, which is pretty good. At the end of the chat he said offhandedly, “If I win, I’ll send you a check.” Yeah right. It’s not so much the question of whether he’ll win that I’m skeptical about, but that he’d attempt to repay my help in some way. I’m such a Doubting Thomas. Regardless, I do feel rather good to have helped, even if he did get annoying again during the chat.

As for the computer, it’s up and running, although it took me all night to get it working, and I’m still not sure what it’s problem was. I dusted out the inside, tried to start it, ear close to the power supply and hand on top to check the temp. Zip. And the power supply seemed fine. I dusted a bit more, this time making sure to get between the heat sinks and the gaps in between the drives then wiggled and pushed on a few connections. Zilch. Several snacks later it was time for more dusting and unplugging and reconnecting various wires, wiggling a few others, and a final blast of air into the CPUs nether regions, after which I flipped the power switch, pressed the button and… bingo! It’s working… for now.

But I still want to upgrade.
