Yesterday when I went to pick my dad up from work I took the back roads that go past the local reservoir (because it's faster than taking the "bypass" with its 20 billion stoplights) and I noticed that autumn had finally come. The trees were beautiful against the water and I decided to go back today to take pictures since by the time I saw them yesterday it was late afternoon and the light was fading fast.
Except today it's cloudy and raining. Which means that I've missed the peak of the autumn colors because the rain will wash a lot of leaves off the trees and it'll start looking more like November than October.
Sigh. The best time of autumn just isn't that long. It's like one week everything's green and summery, and then there are a couple days where the colors on the trees are brilliant, and then the next week the branches are bare. And I keep missing it. I was looking through the (many) pictures I've taken outside and at parks and things over the years, and I seem to be consistently missing autumn. I have nice spring, summer, and winter nature pictures. Very little for autumn, except for a small set I took when I went to Brown County one October back in, like, 2002. And they're not that good because again, it was a cloudy day.
I should have gone back yesterday. I could have gotten a few pictures before I lost the sun.
Anyway, look at my new Amy icon. Isn't she cute?
