School Grounds (Perimeter Wall) - Late Friday Night

Apr 28, 2007 18:44

Kawalsky didn't want to go back inside yet. He sat on the wall that separated the school from the town, looking out at the dark little town and the causeway beyond that led into fog. There was no telling where the causeway would take you. That was the beauty of this place. In Fandom, the possibilities were endless. You could anywhere, see anything, be anyone.

People could find their niche here. Outsiders, renegades, people who were supposed to be dead didn't have to waste away in their own universes. They could come here and be different. They could be themselves and that didn't matter. That was part of everyday life here, and yet things changed here. You never left Fandom quite the way you came in.

Sometimes you never finished a week in Fandom quite the way you started it.

This week, for one, had started out with tensions coming to a head and breaking up with Alanna. The next day hadn't been so great for him. Aly was acting weird like she was a Princess. That night, he'd gone to Caritas and ended up commiserating with LB, then getting relationship advice from Jaye Tyler and her crazy tiki monkey mug. He'd had far too much to drink. So much that he spilled everything to Alanna and still managed to screw things up more, and then managed to be civil to Jack Harkness for the whole time it took them to get back to the dorms.

Thursday brought the hangover from hell and more arguments with Alanna while they were about to be sacrificed to ancient Greek gods. After that, Aly had changed again and tried to tell him that Alanna had sent her to be raised by Angel and Logan her whole life, only Angel and Logan had graduated before this Aly had arrived in Fandom. Something hadn't been right then and Kawalsky had known it.

Friday came and Aly had changed into Sir Alianne of Goldenlake, daughter of Raoul of Goldenlake and Alanna of Trebond.

Earlier in the evening, Jaye had locked Kawalsky and Alanna in her room. And superglued the window closed. And bribed Jamie Madrox to sing Earth Angel and other songs at them. They were in there a few hours, silently confined, refusing to look at each other, let alone talk.

Eventually, something had to give. The anger and frustration eroded away, leaving only a desperate couple not wanting everything to be over. But they both had things to do. They had to go their separate ways and when graduation came and went and they had to see each other off, it wasn't going to be goodbye.

Goodbyes were forever. This wasn't. They would meet again.

Then the final pieces of the puzzle had fallen into place. Aly's changes had started when Charlie and Alanna had broken up. Every time Jaye tried to interfere and failed miserably, Aly changed. The person she claimed was her father changed. Kawalsky's entire knowledge of temporal physics was from movies and Sam, so his theory was uncertain. But it was a theory he had to test by seeing Aly.

So he went to see her. She was back to the Aly he knew. The Aly that had come to Fandom. The Aly that confirmed that she was his daughter.

Things were going to work out. Kawalsky didn't know how, but he was looking forward to finding out. Past graduation, he'd had nothing to ground him. All he had was his past and Fandom and no idea if there was anything for him out there. Now he had a future. That brought a lopsided smile to his face.

Yeah, he didn't feel like going inside. Out here was just fine.

[OOC: Just an establishy linkdrop. HUGE thanks to fates_jaye and multi_madrox for being awesome and to threeweapons and kypriothschoice for having so much fun with me on this plot.]
