I had been warned about Resident Evil 6...

You know, aachannoichi had warned me through posts the other day about Resident Evil 6. She's watching Chris' Campaign and is thoroughly disappointed. This I expected. From the previews alone Chris and Wesker Jr. (I can't even remember the character's name) games within Resident Evil 6 looked f-ing horrible. But Seriously, when it comes to Chris I just lost all hope. Resident Evil 5 was awful and Chris as a character hasn't been written well really since the first game. When it comes to Leon however, I have to admit I liked the preview of his campaign and the little bit of the game I played at Comic-con I thought had great promise. Of course now that I've been watching Leon's game campaign my worst fears have surfaced....

Oh, Resident Evil/Biohazard why why why have you just gotten soooo bad. I mean this is a franchise that started survivor horror, they created the cliche's and the mechanics, but how the hell does a game that created all these tropes end up just stealing other game mechanics. aachannoichi had told me how Chris' game basically stole everything from Dead Space and Gears of War. Well, Leon's game basically steals everything from Left4Dead. Yes, Resident evil has now turned into a Left4Dead clone and really not a good one at that. I could forgive the L4D similarities if the plot was good, but OMG I've already watched over 2 hours of Leon's campaign and I have no idea what the hell is going on.

The first hour Leon is following this support character Helena (who is the most fucking annoying female character ever written in Resident Evil history). Helena keeps telling him "I'll tell you everything when we get to the cathedral". Guess what happens, they get to the cathedral and she of course doesn't tell him shit. Then they save some chick wearing some tight dress, Leon is like "who is this, what's going on" and once again Helena's like "I'll tell you later"  AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH! Just tell him damn it!!!!

Why have the characters in these games just gotten sooo STUPID! Why have the female characters been written so dumb and just downright annoying these past 10 years. Watching this game made me realize that 1). Jill and Claire have not been main characters in these games for over 10 years, 2). All the female characters in these games after Code Veronica have been written as annoying and pointless drones (which is saying something considering Code Veronica) and 3). Leon will never cut a break and the writers continue to treat him like the inexperienced rookie he was in Res 2.

Despite all this I will most likely finish watching the game. Leon though still written rather weakly is still my favorite character in this series and his character is really what holds whatever ever little thread these games have left together. His support character is just so freaking annoying and stupid though that I wish they had just made the games where Leon is mostly alone. I mean the girl from Resident evil 4 wasn't as annoying as Helena and she couldn't shoot or fight! Mechanics wise the game so far is basically just a Left4Dead clone with some Dead space characters (the spitting zombie, fat zombie (also in L4D) and screaming zombie (also from Silent Hill WTF Resident Evil WTF!?) with a thread thin plot.

Although the zombies for the most part are rip offs, I will say I actually like them ALOT better in this game than Res 4&5 (plagas and urobouros are just dumb dumb dumb monsters) and I'm happy that they brought back the shambling zombies from the original games. Leon's controls aren't too bad and I do love his bad-assness. Seriously Leon can now suplex zombies which is just so awsome! The game isn't scary though and is just a generic action series now. I will finish watching it but seriously have lost all hope for this franchise to ever return to its greatness. Too bad the games creator Shinji Mikami was basically thrown out of Crapcom because I think if he was able to come back he might be able to breath some new life into it....le sigh...

wtf!, resident evil 6, video games, reviews, spare me my life!
