Summary: Death be to anything that disturbs Aoi's sleep....if he can find it.
Aoi groaned as he rubbed his temples, the pads of his fingers pressing into the skin to ease an ache he could not reach. "I'm never going to get this done." He sighed, eyes clenching shut for a moment before reopening to look at the bandscores sitting on the table right in front of him. It was past midnight already after a long day of practice and he just wanted to sleep, but he knew he couldn't. Not until these papers were finished. They were already late as it was.
"Come to bed, baby." Kai cooed softly, sitting up in the bed he had just been sleeping in moments ago. The absence of his lover had most definitely been the thing to rouse him from his sleep. "You need your sleep. The tour's coming up."
Without even looking back at his lover, Aoi shook his head. He couldn't. He'd procrastinated on these papers enough and now he had to pay the price. "No, I can't. Sorry, Kai-kun." Aoi muttered in reply, staring down at the sheets that seemed to mock him for the habits he had never quite left behind as a teenager.
Kai chuckled sleepily and got up from the bed, crossing the room to where Aoi sat at the office desk. "We have a couple more days. It's alright to take a break, Aoi-kun." He said, wrapping his strong arms around Aoi's shoulders affectionately and resting his chin upon the guitarist's shoulder. "I promise you won't get in trouble. Especially not for sleep."
There was a reluctance evident in Aoi's features as he fought between finishing work and resting; two things he desperately needed to do. "But..." Before he could further his words Kai leaned forward and kissed the ebony-haired man upon the lips at an awkward angle. "Aoi, I mean it." Kai spoke against those once-pierced lips. "I'll help you at practice tomorrow, okay? That way it'll get done faster."
Aoi knew he wasn't about to win this debate, so with a light, tired chuckle he nodded his head before gently pushing Kai's arms away from him so he could stand up. He cast one last glance at the papers as Kai headed towards the bed, and with a sigh, he followed his lover. "I feel so bad about procrastinating, though. Everyone's going to hate me if this doesn't get finished." It was a tired mumble; the ranting of someone deprived sleep.
"I know, baby, I know." Kai spoke, a knowing smile on his lips as he watched Aoi undress and change into pajama bottoms and a tank top. "It'll get done."
No more words were spoken then as Aoi climbed into the bed and turned off the lamp on the bedside table pressing against his side of the bed. He had left it on to do work at the desk earlier since Kai had said he could still sleep with it on.
The drummer reached over and pulled Aoi's body to him, spooning himself to the elder man's back. "Good night." He murmured, but Aoi was already deep into sleep; evidence of how much he had needed it.
----------------------------------------------
It was about two hours later, when both men were asleep, that a sort of chirping noise drew Aoi from his blissful dreamland. His eyes blinked open and he looked around, the chirping noise resounding again and making him realize it hadn't been in his mind.
A tired arm reached to turn on the bedside lamp, the light filtering throughout the room and killing his eyes momentarily. Kai had moved to the other side of the bed in his sleep, his back to Aoi, so the light didn't wake him up in the least. He just continued to snooze contently, unaware that Aoi was even awake.
Aoi waited a few moments to see if he was going to hear the annoying sound again, but since he didn't he shut the light back off and laid down to go back to sleep. It was silent for about a minute before the chirping started again, agitating the sleepy man into turning on the light once more, a displeased look crossing his features as he scanned the room. Was he going crazy?
Narrowing his eyes he jerked the covers off, and got out of the bed roughly. That action woke Kai up and the drummer turned and looked at him in sleepy confusion. "Mm...what is it, Aoi? You're not going to try and finish those scores, are you?" His voice was heavy with sleep and his eyes squinted against the light of the lamp.
"A cricket." Was all Aoi said before he left the room, body thrumming with anger. The thing had disturbed his sleep and he was far from happy with it.
For a moment Kai was doubting his lover's sanity, but rather than try and say anything, he just turned back over in the bed and decided sleep was a better use of his time. After all it was past two in the morning.
Aoi slowly walked down the hallway, turning on the light as he went. Everything was silent, so he continued onwards, heading to the living room. The guitarist eyed the entire room as he walked through it, only pausing when he got to the doorway between the living room and the kitchen. He stood there, calmly regarding the room, his anger dying down a bit since it was still silent all around. No signs of the offending insect. "Maybe it was all in my mind."
With that said he turned to head back to the bedroom when the chirping happened again, making him turn around abruptly and grip to the framing of the doorway tight enough to turn his knuckles white, his anger fueled once more as he glared at the kitchen. Where was it coming from?!
Alright you little motherfucking cricket. Aoi's threat never left his mouth even when he could finally gauge where it seemed like the chirping was coming from: The refrigerator.
To someone as tired as Aoi the place seemed logical, so he crossed the room to stand in front of the large appliance. He took in the sight of the stuff held to it by magnets before reaching for the handle. Slowly he pulled the door open a bit and looked inside, his anger hidden just beneath the surface of his features.
Something suddenly seemed to hit him that this search for a cricket was stupid--in the refrigerator no less--so he placed a hand over his eyes with a sigh and shut the fridge door. "I just need sleep." Then he turned around and started to head off to his bedroom again, wanting sleep so bad he could already feel the sheets on his skin and the warmth of Kai's presence against his back.
However, even though it had been silent prior to this moment, the cricket had the impeccable timing to chirp right as he set foot in the living room again, sending his anger directly back into control of his mind.
Aoi dashed back into the kitchen and flung open the fridge door, eyes glowering at the contents inside. If this stupid thing was in here he was going to catch it and kill it so he could just go and get some sleep.
Carefully he leaned forward, turning his head to the side so he could hear inside the fridge better. He curiously pressed his ear to the drawer that held their vegetables and waited, only a moment passing before the chirping erupted and he was jumping back, startled. So it was in the fridge! Now, he just had to find it.
Turning, he glanced at the messy dining table they had--its top covered in magazines and assorted papers. Without any hesitation whatsoever he walked over and quickly cleaned the mess off, setting it somewhere else for the time being before he was walking back to the fridge, looking inside to find where the cricket most likely was.
Instead of thinking for long he started cleaning out the contents, tossing them onto the table if they were plastic or non-breakable, or setting them there if they were glass or drinks that could bust open.
It took him minutes to get everything out, but even when everything was out he still couldn't see the damn cricket. Where was it?!
As if on cue he heard the chirping again, but this time from elsewhere. Furrowing his brows in a mixture of anger and confusion, Aoi looked down to the area below the fridge, that led to underneath it. Now he knew where the devil insect was.
Almost shaking in anger and sleep deprivation, Aoi headed to the hall closet, getting out a broom and a feather duster. One of them ought to get the thing if it was under there.
When he returned to the kitchen the chirping resounded again and he had to stop a moment because he actually started shaking in his anger, the emotions contorting his face into a nose-curling snarl as he took the items and laid down in front of the refrigerator. The chirping was an almost constant thing now, so it fueled his need to make the stupid thing stop.
First he tried the feather duster, but the fluffy end wouldn't fit under the fridge, so he tried the handle part of it. It didn't work. Therefore he tossed it aside and reached for the broom. Neither side would fit in the small space so he was sent getting up and looking for other things. His eyes were wild, feral as he crossed the kitchen, looking around as if he would go mad if he didn't kill the bug.
Spotting a meter stick leaning against the wall--hell knows why they even had the thing--he walked over and grabbed it, taking it and resuming his spot laying on the ground in front of the refrigerator. The chirping was still going on, even as he thrust the stick under the fridge, jamming it around and moving it back and forth. For a moment he thought the effort fruitless, but with one good thrust the chirping died down like the sound on a video game when you pull the plug out with the game still on.
Eyes widened and he remained there for a few moments, just staring, before he mechanically got himself back up to his feet. Slowly he put the stuff back in the fridge, turned off all lights, and headed back to the bedroom. He was devoid of all emotions as he re-entered the bedroom and sat on the edge of the bed.
"Did you kill it?" Kai asked sleepily, rolling over to look at his lover. Aoi said nothing and just shifted a bit on the bed, looking around the room as if traumatized.
Then, abruptly, he fell back onto the sheets and fell asleep again, small snores escaping him. Kai eyed him with a raised eyebrow before he just sighed and shrugged, leaning over his lover to turn off the lamp. "Stupid." He mumbled, getting himself comfortable in the sheets.
Just as he was drifting off to sleep a certain sound caught his ears and he jerked upright in the bed. "Aoi, did you hear that?"
