Dream: Takahashi

Nov 19, 2005 17:39

Tuesday morning:

Rival mechs lumbered in the rocky desert. A white contrail tore across the screen and the cinematic cut to closeup as a maroon behemoth lurched with the impacting round, then cut back to the cockpit as we watched our ally fall.

"Iho Takahashi!" said an amazed voice over the intercom. malcubed said it with him like he always did. He thought it was the funniest part of the game, because the subtitled translation read "They got Takahashi!" Nothing else was in... whatever Asian language that was, just that one bit of the game. Like someone at the developer really wanted to show off that they knew "Iho" meant "They got" in some foreign language... or maybe it doesn't, and that was all they could think up.

gnfnrf got up and pressed a few buttons on a rack of hardware, toggling the screen to another game. We watched him play a few minutes of a candy-colored platformer, something like Mario crossed with Sonic the Hedgehog... or Super Breakout.

My dad came by later. He'd hooked up all the hardware, left cables trailing everywhere. My mom tried to watch something, but she had to unhook a wire and run it halfway across the room, and she wasn't sure which. Someone had left a note explaining something, but I can't remember it.
