Spoilers through Garrus' recruitment.
Title: SSV Love Boat
Rating: PG/PG-13 for language
Word Count: 385
Characters: James and Shepard
Pairings: Current Shepard/Garrus, former Shepard/Kaidan, Liara has unrequited feelings for Shepard
Summary: After recruiting Garrus, James gives Shepard a hard time about her complex love life.
James was in the shuttle bay, his assault rifle in pieces on the table in front of him. Damn moon dust from Menae was all over it. He heard someone walking up behind him. Sounded like Shepard.
"Hey Lola," he said without look up from his work, "didn't know I signed up to be on the SSV Love Boat."
"Excuse me Vega?"
"I got eyes Commander, and ears. I could tell the moment I met Major Alenko that there was something there. Not to mention the whole Cerberus conversation on Mars. That was a dead giveaway. Then there's Liara. I'd be glad to see you too if I was being chased through vents by Cerberus but I wouldn't give you that kind of hug."He picked up the barrel and started wiping it down. "And finally there's the scarred up turian that just joined us."
"Garrus," she interrupted.
"Yeah, Garrus. I'm not good at reading turians but I've never seen one give a person a handshake with two hands." He ran a brush inside then squinted to see if it was clean. "He's the one though. The look you gave him said it all. The two of you did a good job of keeping it professional up there but if the Primarch hadn't been with us, I think Liara and I might've had quite a show on the shuttle ride back."
He put the barrel down and looked over at her. She was leaning to one side with her arms folded over her chest. Shepard looked annoyed but not angry. "He knew I was on Earth and I knew he'd gone to Palavan. It was just good to know that the other was ok, that's all," she said dryly.
"Sure, whatever you say Lola. Just remember I'll be down here if it doesn't work out."
"I'm sure that will be very comforting to Garrus." She gave him a smirk to show there were no hard feelings. "I should warn you though, he's a very good hand to hand specialist. Excellent reach."
"And you would know that from experience?"
"Let's just say I know who I'd put my money on."
She flashed a devious smile before turning to go back to the elevator. James chuckled as he started snapping the pieces back into place.
