so i was walking to class today when some dude ran past me and took my purse with him as he went. park, just west of frederick, five after twelve.
insulin, camera, cash, ids, bank cards, mom's rosary... all gone
me being me, i gave chase and tailed the guy down frederick screaming bloody fuck murder the entire way. people at the other end of the block heard me. he ducked into someone's yard and i lost him. i proceeded to collapse with grief in someone's driveway and call 911. people who saw me chasing the guy came to my aid and two took off in cars to try and find the guy. the others stayed and helped me take in the situation.
a woman saw dude hop a fence but she said he didn't have anything so maybe he'd stashed the bag somewhere. by the by, it was my favorite purse - the one with the "kissing the war goodbye" photo on it. we found it, missing anything of value, but thankfully the insulin was still there, along with my rosary and a few other personal effects.
meanwhile, a woman who heard me screaming called a cop friend of hers who lived in the neighborhood saying something to the effect of "some woman had her purse stolen and you're not going to believe this but she's going after him and he's only got about ten yards on her." if i'd been wearing proper shoes, i would've had him. in any case, i had at least one off-duty cop, plus two witnesses i'd only just met who took off in cars looking for the dude.
apparently he took off towards oakland and locust, pulled a gun on someone who was trying to stop him and then ducked into riverside high - the cops got him on the other side. the gun was just a bb gun, but according to the responding officer looked like the real deal at first glance. mercifully i wasn't subjected to that.
in any case, they've got him in custody, and i got my ids, camera, cards, cash, purse, everything back. i'm pressing charges. i'm at champion's with friends right now because to be honest, i can't be alone right now and it's the only place i feel safe. my buddy chuck brought me dinner, which i pretty much inhaled on the patio. i got my doggy fix from cosmo and finbar, and a few shots so far, and i'm okay.
i'm just thankful that i'm not hurt, i got my stuff back, and that i have such amazing friends to help me calm down. i'm okay, just severely shaken. thank god for my friends.
