Winchester Wednesday #23

May 06, 2009 23:59

Hi Guys!

It's me, Winnie. Long time, no meow. How have you all been?

I've been OK. Can't say I'm real happy about the cool change in the weather of late. It seriously cramps my style as an outdoor cat, if you know what I mean. Trying to concentrate on running and climbing and hunting insects and staring down the three-legged cat across the street is tough work when you're freezing your tail off! Brrr...

Anyway, you're probably all wondering why I'm taking over this particular Winchester Wednesday. Well, I noticed a few 'old' photos of Katy and her previous cats lying around and I couldn't resist going through them.

MMAO! (aka 'Meow My Ass Off!') When I say 'old' I mean OLD! We're talking the 1970s, man! And the 1980s, dude! And the 1990s, dog! Talk about funny!!! The fur-dos on those cats back then. Ha! Wait until you see the stylin' of Tegan!

Anyway, since Katy regularly posts photos of me here for all the world to see I decided a little payback was in order. She doesn't think I know about her posting 'this photo' in Winchester Wednesday #6 but I do. Besides, it's only fair that the cats who came before me in those pre-internet days (whut?!?) get their time in the spotlight. Oh, and there's a few more photos of wee!katy like this one...

Pixie (and Katy)
Mid-Late 1970s

Everyone is pretty sure this cat is Pixie. They're also pretty sure the kid is Katy. ;)
Pixie had a friend, Dixie, but Dixie disappeared one day. Popular theory is Dixie hitched a lift in a workman's van and was never seen again. Poor Dixie.

Same Cat. Same kid. Both slightly older. I'm hoping both cat and kid moved off the couch during the time between these photos. o_O

Sooty
Late 1970s

Does Sooty remind you of anyone you know? Anyone? *checks mirror*

Ginger
Late 1970s-Early 1980s

Ginger was not quite right... in the head.

She was a sweet cat though and was only around four years old when she died. Ginger is the first cat Katy can remember.

Smokey
Late 1970s-Early 1980s

Smokey arrived at the same time Ginger did. Not many details are known about Smokey. I don't think he was around for very long...

Tegan
1983-mid 1990s

Pretty!cat! Pretty!cat! Seriously! Can you imagine maintaining that mop of fur? Do you think she had it blow-waved? *snicker* All that fur must create some serious wind-resistance. I have it on good authority that Tegan may have had a few issues with her fur and may have needed to be shaved on more than one occasion. ;D

OMG! Odd eyes! Odd eyes! Not to mention that thing on her head! MMAO!

Tegan was named after one of Dr. Who's assistant in the original series. And, yep, that's Katy again. Apparently she could knit at one point in her life. If only she could remember how because then she could knit me a jumper to wear outside. ;)

Mano and Tegan
Mid-Late 1980s

Mano belonged to a friend of Katy's Grandma. Mano came to live with Katy and her family when he was already quite old. He was a purrer; a very loud purrer. You know how loud a car motor is? Well, Mano's pur was that loud. He also had very long legs - kind of like stilts - which he never bent when he was picked up.

Nothing wrong with that, I say. Long legs are good on a cat... *twirls* ...don't you think?

Chocky
1989-2005

Little Chocks was found near railway lines by a neighbour. They'd already taken in a stray a few month earlier so Chocky came to live with Katy and her family. She was a scaredy cat in every scense of the word. Noises and unfamiliar people being her main concerns. She used to have this toy mouse who she would 'talk' to when she was left alone in a room. If someone walked into the room she'd immediately turn her back on the mouse as if to say, 'What mouse? He's not with me...' I can't imagine a day when I'd be talking to a stuffed mouse!

Chocky was another sweet cat and as a kitten used to delight in running up Katy's leg. While Katy was standing! She wasn't too fond of cuddles but would tolerate it for a bit and when she wanted to get down she'd give Katy a 'kiss' on the nose. *eye roll* Chocky obviously didn't know the rules about not letting humans 'train' you. Nobody's training this little black cat, I can tell you that now!

Chocky was so tiny when she arrived that Katy and her Grandma weren't even sure she could eat solid food. Chocks put that theory to rest when she jumped out of Katy's arms and ran across the kitchen bench and start chomping on a piece of steak Grandma was preparing for dinner.

Chocky and Tegan

Chocky adored Tegan.

Tegan and Chocky

Tegan tolerated Chocky.

Tegan went missing around 1996-1997. Best guess is she took herself off somewhere. She was about 14 years old and being a Persian 14 years was a good innings. Chocky had to be put to sleep in March 2005. She was 16 years old.

Winnie
2008 - Present

And then there was me! \O/
But you already know all about me! ;P

Catcha next time!
Love Winnie
