Yep, I have now had an LJ for exactly a year. It really doesn't seem like that long, more like five or six months. Time flies when you're having fun!
When I signed up, I was adament that I would never need anything more than a basic account, but within six months I somehow aquired a paid account, and then a 100 icon add on. I beleive my justification was something along the lines of, "It's in dollars and the exchange rate's really good at the moment so really I'm hardly spending anything..."
Anyway, I have learnt a lot from LJ in the past year, including:
1. HTML - I barely knew what it was before LJ, and now I can make things bold, and itallic, and with a strikethrough. I can even do links. (However, I still cannot do cuts in HTML, I chickened out after making a mess of it on
metamorfic_moonand now only do cuts in Rich Text, lol.)
2. Time Zones - I never used to notice time-zones, but having friends across the globe makes you really aware of them. For instance, I never hear anything from
mrstaterbefore lunchtime, (and she gets up really early, lol) and usually from
wildmageletin the middle of the night (because she's in NZ).
3. There are no book tokens in America. I consider this to be most tragic and I don't know how you all cope. ;)
4. A whole new language - this is down to fandom rather than LJ but the two kinda go hand in hand. It took me ages to work it all out (I only recently worked out what OTP meant *blushes*.)
5. Icon making is addictive - thanks to LJ and its icons I have rediscovered my love of messing around in Microsoft Photodraw. (and have lost many hours to it too.)
Anyway, what better way to celebrate than by doing a meme?
gilpin25 tagged me for this one...
Rules of the game:
- list your top five favorite musical artists.
- list your top five favorite songs from each artist.
- tag five people to do the same.
In no particular order:
1. Bellowhead
This is a very funky folk band, with well over ten members, who do a lot of tunes and some songs. They're pretty unique and absolutely amazing live. I challenge you to keep still while listening to their stuff. ;) (Plus, their drummer uses a frying pan and ladle, and you can't argue with that ;) )
Jack Robinson (Tune)
Jordan (Song)
Frogs Legs and Dragons Teeth (Tune)
Fire Marengo (Song)
Sloe Gin (Tune)
2. Show of Hands
An acoustic duo from Devon. Steve Knightley's songwriting is amazing, and it just gets better and better.
Roots (An angry rant about the profile of traditional music in this country, with great imagery.)
Dark Fields
Widdecome Fair (A sort of prequel to the traditional version. When they play it live, they unplug their instruments and walk among the audience. Lovely.)
Hook of Love
The Dive
3. Ralph McTell
Bloke who wrote Streets of London. Though that is by no means his best work, only his most famous.
Mr Connaughton (so lovely it makes me cry)
The Girl from the Hiring Fair
Tequila Sunrise
Keeping the Night at Bay
Rue De La Montaigne St. Genevieve
4. REM
They have a mandolin. How cool is that?
The Great Beyond
Bad Day
Losing my Religion
Orange Crush
Nightswimming
5. Joni Mitchell
Chelsea Morning
Big Yellow Taxi
River
You Turn Me On I'm a Radio
Urge for Going
This was so hard. I could have picked loads more artists and loads more tracks. Very tough. (and I apologise for the fact that you probably haven't heard of the majority.)
