I must say it's been quite a week. Monday was pretty lowkey...probably my last day of babysitting Mamie because Jessica's ankles are getting too swollen to work long days anymore, plus it's time to get back into subbing. That is exactly what I did Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday was 7th and 8th graders, the 8th graders being one of the worst grades I subbed for all of last year and they didn't change much over the summer. However, for being my first day back it could have gone worse. Wednesday I taught a health class so I had all grades. The activities the teacher left involved a lot of moving around and talking to other people in the class, so some classes didn't exactly follow directions as well as they should have. Oh well, it was a start and here's hoping the rest of the year keeps improving.
Tuesday night I went up to Holland and met Lynn, Rachel and a couple other people. Went to dinner at 8th Street Grill and then after realizing we didnt have any place on campus to hang out for a long period of time we ended up at Barnes and Noble looking at books in the self-help section.
Wednesday night we started our midweek program at church. I have two grades for my class this year(1st and 2nd), so all the kids I had last year plus the new 1st graders. That makes 11 kids and most of them were really good, but a couple wild little boys made things a little more difficult. They're a fun group though and I'm looking forward to the year.
Thursday I did some more babysitting for the Vreeman and Stamm kids during the visitation of their grandpa. It was a sad occasion, but overall the kids seemed to be handling it pretty well. They knew it was coming and their parents prepared them as best they could explaing that it was God's time for Grandpa to go to heaven. It was interesting to see how each of them were dealing with it from 5 year old Clark being very matter-of-fact about it to Emma, who just needed a hug once and awhile. The funeral is tomorrow, or I should say the celebration of life and I think it'll be a good service. One benefit to being terminally ill is being able to plan how you want your funeral to go and say good-bye.
The other exciting thing is that I sold my car! It's strange not seeing it in the driveway anymore, but I love the new car....so much more stylish and updated, even though it is still 8 years old....it's a big improvement! So far the new wheels are handling great!
Well, that's all that's new with me, so til another time....
