I just quit my job.
My last day is August 28, and my last day in the country is September 3.
I'm going to El Salvador to volunteer as an English teacher and study Spanish and the culture/politics of the country, at a social justice organization. The website is
here.
It's a ten week program, and unpaid, so the cost of living and Spanish classes will deplete my bank account, but not entirely. The hope is that at the end of two and a half months I'll have strong enough Spanish to get a paying job in Latin America. I have no idea how feasible this is, but worse comes to worst I move back to the US with head hung in shame, right? I mean, I'll still have enough money for a plane ticket.
This winter (hopefully from Latin America) I'll apply to grad school. I hope to get into the
University for Peace, which I'll have to make sure is widely respected, but it's chartered by the UN so I imagine it must be. It's pretty damn cheap as far as graduate programs go (about $20K).
And that puts me living in Latin America for at least the next two years, starting in three weeks.
I'M FREAKING OUT.
