Worst Supper, EVER!!

I  just gotta share my absolute worst dinner ever. So sad because it had such promise.  The only way to share this lame-ass dinner is through an equally lame-ass list:

What Happened to My Perfectly Excellent Idea for a Simple Friday Night Dinner:  A List

1.  The wine, just opened last night, tasted like shit. Somehow, it went bad overnight.  (We drink an appertivo before dinner, while cooking and catching up on the day.)

2.  The rice dish - the one that always cooked so well in Baton Rouge - was still nearly raw when the timer went off. I have no idea what happened, but it still wasn't done after an additional 20 minutes.  So, an extra 15 minutes later...it was finally overdone.

3. The steaks, grilled outdoors in the dark, grossed me out.  I detest rare or medium-rare steaks (thanks to a supremely bad experience with nearly-raw hamburgers back in high school), and while Calvin answered the phone, I checked out the steaks only to notice a pool of blood showing up on the top of one of them.  I voiced my concerns, and so Calvin went to grill them again.  About 15 mins later, he brought in the tremendously overcooked streaks.

4.  While all this went on, the rolls - timed to come out of the oven when dinner was ready - went cold.

5.  So did the grilled vegetables.

6.  We were out of my favorite steak sauce in the whole world - A1 - but not to fear, because I had a new bottle in the pantry.  It was bad. I mean, really bad. Putrid.  It was like having bad, sour, rotten vinegar.  And, I poured it all over my steak before trying it, because why in the hell would A1 go bad?

Essentially, every single thing that could suck about supper tonight, did.  At least the oven didn't blow up. But the old A1 bottle did, when I went to open it.  All over my hand, shirt, and the table. WTF?

7.  Now, it's time for dessert.  Good luck to us, I hope we survive.
P.S. Dessert had nutmeg in it, and a warning about allergies. Now I'm worried...does nutmeg have the same proteins in it that causes my nut allergies to kick in? We'll find out, in about 10 minutes or so...
