Swedish police
made this point on Facebook, but I think it's important enough to share elsewhere:
A lot of Missing Person notices are posted on social media. When you see these, take into consideration that some people are missing with good reason, because they are hiding from abusive relatives, or they're in witness protection, or something like that. Sometimes the notice you read comes from someone who absolutely shouldn't know where the person in question is located. This happened to
a woman in the city of Hässleholm: her ex put a notice out to find his kid, someone called in a tip, and the woman was put in mortal danger because of it.
If you recognize someone on a Missing Person notice, do not contact any private individual mentioned on the notice. Call the police. They know what to do, and whether or not this person is indeed someone who should be found.
Preferably, don't even share a Missing Person notice unless you're certain it's legit.
