Weird body stuff

Dec 18, 2012 21:15

One of the weirdest things about IBS is how it can feel so wonderful to throw up. A night like tonight, when I've been out with some colleagues, and I've had some pasta and dessert and a glass of beer, all of which would be fine on a normal night. But I have a cold, and have had a teeny bit of a fever, and had a minor IBS attack yesterday, so it's not a normal night, as my stomach was so kind to remind me. I took the bus home, gave the cat food, and then promptly went into the bathroom and puked.

Voila. Half the pain gone in an instant, like magic.

It kind of scares me. After twenty years, I've conditioned myself into thinking of vomiting as a positive. It's something that, if I'm lucky, makes the pain go away. It's hard to remind myself that it is also, strictly speaking, something my body isn't supposed to be doing.
