on short films, veganism, and lack of fannish TV shows

For those of you who like short films, I've been using my Tumblr to promote some films shown at previous years' Fantastisk Filmfestival. There are only five of them so far, but I'll be adding more.

One fun side effect of this was that when I added The Saga of Biorn, I ended up giving a mini lecture on YouTube about how most of what we know about Norse mythology comes from Christian sources who spilled Jesus all over their myths, to the great frustration of later scholars. :-)

On the subject of internet conversations, I also got a laugh out of a vegan organisation on Facebook that posted a quote from John Kellogg: "A dead cow or sheep lying in a pasture is recognized as carrion. The same sort of a carcass dressed and hung up in a butcher's stall passes as food."

1. As I pointed out to the posters, this comes from a guy who thought masturbation was potentially lethal. They were all "he had a holistic approach!" and I was all "yeah, he was a TINHAT."

2. I am very susceptible to arguments from an ethical perspective, and somewhat from a health perspective (only somewhat, since a lot of vegetables, especially the protein-rich ones, give me stomach aches). I am NOT AT ALL susceptible to arguments of "ewwww, you're eating gross stuff!" Nature is gross. Get used to it.

A colleague of mine actually mentioned yesterday that she'd been unwittingly eating snails once and puked once she found out what it was. Me? I'd eat snails. I'd eat bull's dick, like my father did once. As long as the texture and taste is okay, it's not too hot, and the food isn't staring back at me, I'm fine.

I've watched the latest ep of Political Animals, and if it wasn't a miniseries I'd give it up, because playing Hearts in another window is one thing, but opening cracked.com means that I'm pretty much not interested anymore. The plot isn't really advanced very much per episode, and the characters keep acting in much the same way ep after ep. The soap just got a bit too soapy for me.

On a sidenote, I was confused by T.J. being played by the same actor as Bucky, because I couldn't make it fit my inner image, until I saw this post by Racebending and realized that I had mentally replaced the face of Bucky with the face of Howard Stark. Don't know what's up with that. :-)

In general, I need a new fandom. I was going to say "a new TV show", but that's not it, exactly. I have things to watch, it's the fannish bits I miss. I mean, even apart from the time I spend obsessing about an old movie, my favourite TV pastime at the moment is The Twilight Zone, and when I'm not watching that I watch the occasional ep of Moonlighting or Little Mosque on the Prairie. There's not really much fanworks about any of those, and what there is, I'm not so curious to find. (Although
sisabet's fanvid She Hates Me for Moonlighting is brilliant.)

The only show I have with a regular fandom these days is Leverage, and even there, I don't particularly feel a need to search out fanworks. Things haven't changed that much since the first season.

So, IDK. I need something more fannishly oriented to be fannish about. I guess I could finally finish the reading of Yuletide fic I gave up in February, but, meh.
