It snowed today. The kind of very wet snow that's half a degree from being sleet, and in fact was sleet at certain times. In February and March, it's the kind of weather I curse. In early December it's fricking AWESOME. Especially since we had five days of snow in November, and I can't recall ever having five days of snow in November before. We might get an actual winter this year! (The main reason I like snow is because it's now dark about 16 hours a day, and snow brightens the world a bit. Also, snowballs and angels and whatnot.)
My neighbour showed me a book about the 1979 snow chaos, and now I'm wondering with horrified fascination if perhaps we're headed for something like that again. I missed last time with about 18 months...

Anyway, time for the montly roundup. I'll start with the ficcing, AKA my redheaded stepchild:
November 10th
136 words (original fic)
November 11th
540 words (Buffy alt season 5)
388 words (Psych)
November 14th
226 words (yuletide)
November 18th
910 words (yuletide)
November 19th
178 words (yuletide)
November 22nd
187 words (yuletide)
November 23rd
169 words (yuletide)
November 26th
276 words (yuletide)
November 28th
56 words (yuletide)
November 29th
478 words (yuletide)
November 30th
38 words (yuletide)
Expected number: 15,000
Actual number: 3,582
Expected number after eight months: 122,000
Total number after eight months: 52,946
I just barely beat last month's score, and only thanks to yuletide. I'm quite the diligent yuletide writer this year! I have to admit that I'm a bit worried, though. This fic is turning out a lot longer than my previous yuletide gifts (which usually ended up about 1500-2500 words), and I have less than three weeks to finish it. Eek!
Now, for television:
November 1st

November 4th
Sarah Jane Adventures 2x07 - I really liked this ep, even more than I usually like the SJA eps. I guess it's all the family stuff, I'm a sucker for family relations.
Heroes 3x07
November 5th
90210 1x09 - Okay, for one thing, idiots, voice inflection is created by NURTURE, not nature. Why oh why do I watch this show? *g* Apart from the actual adults being pretty good, I mean... (While I've always found Rob Estes kind of hot, he's never pinged as an actor for me before, but I really like him in this part. And Lori Loughlin, of course, is Lori Loughlin and I've had a crush on her since middle school.)
November 6th
Moonlighting 2x15 - Dear Woobie David. I appreciate the crying and all, but I'd be ever so much happier if you stopped sneaking into Maddie's bedroom while she slept and waking her up by putting your hand on her face. Ew.
Beautiful People 1x01 -Whee! I love this show already. <3 Meera Syal

Moonlighting 3x7 - Atomic Shakespeare, the reason I started this Moonlighting marathon in the first place. It's just as good as I remembered it, and of course now I've discovered that the rest of the show is just as delightful!
November 19th
Heroes 3x9 - Okay, this show is officially on the worst kind of crack. I can't help being amused, though, and keep watching for the trainwreck fun. Just keep shirtless Sylar FAR away from me.
November 21st
Supernatural 4x10 - I liked this episode a lot, but dear God, can they stop piling more trauma onto Dean already? It got ridiculous about two years ago. I think it's an effect of Kripke a) wanting the crying scenes, b) wanting not to repeat himself with old trauma (which is sensible), c) having to outdo himself each time, and d) starting with something as fundamentally traumatic as ceiling-Mary in the very first five minutes of the show. It's like how supervillains have to become increasingly scarier until the heroes are fighting people who will totally end the universe and all other universe in just about five minutes OMG! Except this time with angst.
November 22nd

Expected number: 41
Actual number: 47
Expected number after nine months: 374
Total number after nine months: 524
And I'm past 500 already! I'll keep going for the rest of the year, though, and see just how many shows I watch a day on average. This month wasn't very TV-heavy, all things considered. I am quite surprised at the result and keep wondering if there's something I've forgotten... *g*
Finally, films:
November 8th
The Crying Game - I finally finished watching it. Am much enamoured by Dil's androgynous hotness, and I really liked both Rhea's and Whitaker's performances. All in all a good film, though it failed to grip me for some reason.
November 10th
The Shawshank Redemption - good, well-acted film, if not one that's going to live on in my heart.
November 15th
Sweeney Todd - I liked bits of it and other bits not so much. Certain scenes were great, like the one in the madhouse for instance. The music wasn't really my style, though I grew used to it after a while. The acting was nice, though I can't say I cared about anyone in the movie, what with the major players being evil bastards and the lovers extremely bland. The ending was suspenseful and strong, but squicked me out, and I feel that (bland as they were) we should have been told what happened to the lovers. On a sidenote, I read wikipedia and discovered that the original Sweeney Todd story sounds much more my thing (I'm not a big fan of revenge stories), though of course I understand that it can't be done anymore - once you know what Todd and Lovett is up to, the detective angle becomes rather meaningless. :-)
November 17th
Whale Rider - a bit predictable, but sweet and well-acted.
November 22nd
Clerks II - I don't know if it can properly be said that I "saw" this one, since the video kept acting up, but I saw some of it and heard the whole thing, so I'm counting it. :-) It's one of Kevin Smith's better films, I think, and I'd love to see it properly sometime.
November 23rd
Låt den rätte komma in / Let the right one in - I'm not a big fan of vampire movies, but I really liked this one, particularly since they didn't try to romanticize vampirism or make Eli anything but a - very sweet - monster. The mix of social realism and supernatural worked very well for me, and if I have any complaints its that the pace dragged somewhat towards the middle, mainly because the film wasn't very plot-centric. Characterisation and mood was brilliant, though. And I'm ridiculously squeeful that the hospital scene had "Längtans blåa blomma" as background music, AKA a song from a Hasse & Tage movie (the director is Hasse's son).
Expected number: 8
Actual number: 6
Expected number after eight months: 67
Total number after eight months: 53
Once again, I end up with six movies. It seems that's my level of normality, or something. :-)
For next month, I predict a decent fic count until the yuletide story is done and then barely nothing, with lots of TV and average movie watching.
