Happy advent, to those of you who celebrate, and happy good-time-to-get-some-candles to the rest of you (at least in the Northern hemispere, I imagine candles are kind of superfluous in the Southern hemisphere right now). The first Sunday in advent is my favourite church-going holiday, because it's so cheerful. And then when you leave there are candles, and stars in the windows, and gingerbread, and it's All Good, especially after that drab November. (Of course, November this year wasn't so bad - we got five days with very pretty snow, which is unusual.)
In case you needed further proof that I love to hear my own voice, I have uploaded mp3 files of me singing three of my favourite advent songs.
Bereden väg för HerranI uploaded the tricksy melody rather than the easy melody, because it's prettier and because I am a masochist. :-) For non-Swedes: this is a pretty typical example of what Swedish folk music sounds like.
Gå Sion din konung att mötaThis is actually based on an American original, "Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice," and I love it to pieces. Sometimes they skip it on the first advent Sunday and save it for the second or third, but today I was lucky and they played it. Of course, it doesn't sound half as fun a capella.
AdventstidNostalgia rules eternal. :-) I sang this in the very first choir I was in, at six or seven, and I still find it a very pretty song. It's the only one where I've included more than one verse, since it only has two, unlike the previous songs which have about five verses each.
