basic Islam pop quiz
eid_fic linked to a rather interesting post about the observation of Ramadan. The post was the reply to a writer's block prompt, and so I went to check out some of the other replies. Unsurprisingly, I got furious. There were posts claiming that they would celebrate Ramadan by "Eating lots of bacon, stepping on bread and waving the American flag," as well as posts saying that LJ was mollycoddling terrorists by even asking such a question.
My anger was enough to get me off my ass and make a basic pop quiz on Islam for all my friends. :-) I'm not an expert - that's my dad - and I tend to assume that everyone knows the stuff I know. In the face of mind-boggling ignorance, however, I have had to face the fact that this isn't always true.
So, pop quiz. These questions are partly basic Islam 101, partly addressing common misconceptions. If you know the answers, good. If you don't, this is an excellent time to learn.
ETA: I realized afterwards that the way one of the questions is phrased, I actually got it wrong. Shame on me!
