Pretty in Pink

Well, not yet, anyways.

For those who know me only from the internet, you might not know that I've been a little bit punk since the late 90s. I've often wondered if I was born in the wrong era, although I'm not entirely sure what era would have been the right one; it's kind of a toss-up of the Victorian/late 19th century and the early punk movement, which are totally different so maybe some neo-Victorian era in an alternate timeline may be my proper place in time.

At any rate, although I've dyed my hair away from my natural dark ashy/strawberry blonde over the years, the wildest I've ever really gone is in the range of vibrant reds; the darkest shade I've done is a burgundy red that looked almost purple in some lights, but was still close enough to a natural shade that none of my employers ever complained about it. But as I get older, I get more of an urge to go drastically different with my hair. At the moment, I have it dyed a light blonde that isn't really platinum. I've actually had it closer to platinum before with the very cheap dyes (if I recall correctly, it was Revlon ColorSilk Ultra Light Ash Blonde), but again it's close enough to a natural shade that no one really said a word.

But what I really want to do at the moment is a soft, pastel, cotton candy pink.

However, I have a slight dilemma. As many of you know, I work at Florida State University's College of Medicine. My actual office is in the research side of the building, so the dress code for the office staff is very relaxed. Our chair's idea of "business casual" is "if you get your work done, you can wear whatever you want that's not ripped up," meaning that at least 5 of the 6 of us is wearing jeans on any given day with a nice shirt. The hair standards, on the other hand, remain that hair needs to be a natural shade.

Yet on the other side of the campus, at Strozier Library, the dress code is actual business casual yet hair can be what the hell ever. Point of fact, there's a librarian - yes, a librarian - whose hair is currently white, purple, and red because she informed her hairdresser that she needed to be more bold with color... and no one says a thing about it so long as she's in business casual dress.

Ergo, I'm currently saving up money for a chin-length bob wig, likely in a dark ash blonde, to wear at work. Once this is procured, this chick is headed back out to buy some Manic Panic Virgin Snow and Cotton Candy Pink (and possibly either Atomic Turquoise, Voodoo Blue or Lie Locks) and making my dream hair a reality.
