I'm really getting bad at updating this, aren't I?
Anyway, this weekend was actually very fun. Saturday morning
mizo_no_oto came down to see me, and she stayed till Sunday afternoon, which was quite awesome (even if I didn't get a lot of work done--but I switched my sleep schedule to normal!).
The weather was nice and not shrinkingly cold for once, so we walked around the campus and associated areas, and I showed her the cool administration buildings and she took photos. Then we went back to my apartment and had lunch, and sat and chatted for a while. Well, she's pretty quiet, so I was the one who chatted, in the way y'all are familiar with. I rambled to her a whole lot about Oscar Wilde, going into a full-on multi-media presentation of his biography, which I haven't done for a couple years now! Vicky, if she ever reads this journal, might remember what it was like.
Then one of my roommates was actually about to leave, and she invited us to her farewell party. She's finished her Ph.D. and is going back to Japan (flying back today, in fact). I made An drive, and after some more roundabout walking--this time far less intentional--we found the place and met the roomie's friends and hung out there for a couple hours. Almost everyone at the party was Japanese, so I was the token white girl, hah. But I was surprised at how much of the conversation I could pick up, even though all my Japanese has long since fled. And it was fun to be surrounded by Japanese-speaking people: it encouraged me to try and attempt to revive some of my nihongo skills.
By the time we got back to my apartment it was pretty late, and I was very tired, so I made An stay over rather than risking her to brave the train station.
The next day we had breakfast, and then I made An do a photosession with me, because it's been a while since I've found anyone else who likes taking photos like I do.
And here's a photo that An took of my Bowie boots--because I wanted a better-quality shot of 'em:
I'm still waiting on the photos you took yourself, An...
Then we decided to have lunch before she set off, but all the restaurants around here seem to be either expensive as all get-out (weird, no?) or closed on Sundays. It was also bloody cold, so we didn't have the luxury of exploring too many possibilities. I did take a pic of An freezing her shins off in a graveyard, though. ;-)
We ended up going to a warm, hearty pub, and having a long lunch on its top floor, overlooking the cold streets below. After that, An took a train to New York, and I went to the library to study. And An's visit finally turned my sleep-cycle around, hurrah!
And now Anna is coming to see me next weekend, and I'm gonna see if we can meet up with An in New York again and go to the Korova Milk Bar she's discovered. Because if there's one thing I'm passionate about, it's visiting book-and-movie-themed bars.
