Once more with feeling!
A few weeks back, I brought my cat Chaplin home for the weekend to see if he would adjust from going from a house with many cats to a house where he is the cat. It did not go very well. Shenanigans ensued, and he was miserable. I took him back home the following Monday morning and he was just so obviously happy to be home. Disappointment abounded.
This week, I decided it was time to try again, but with the other cat I was planning to eventually bring home. Well, okay, Othniel was sitting on the porch when I was heading out and just excited to see me. So I stole him.
My other cat - who is getting on in years, but is a real sweetheart - was brought to my new home to see how he would handle the transition. I initially thought Chaplin would be the easier one to acclimatize. He's younger, and kind of cranky with the other cats. Othniel, however, is always sweet-tempered and adores people, but gets on fine with other animals just fine.
Thus far? Othniel hasn't displayed any of the ridiculousness I went through with Chaplin. His first thing was wandering around the house and exploring. Then he found the bed and decided it was bath time. I don't think he's actually stopped purring yet.
So ... yeah. I am cautiously hopeful that Othniel is going to be a-okay with being The Cat. So far so good. I was going into serious pet withdrawal.
