#2. Emotronica
WTF? Let's combine the word emo that comes from the word 'emotion' with electronica, describing the ever changing world of synths, electrical equipment etc., to make EMOTRONICA! Wow! I'm sold. The word 'emo' originally dates back in 1990s and again it comes from the word emotion. There was a movement of bands lead by the likes of 'Weezer' 'Cake' 'Ween' and some other rock whino nerd boys who just want to desperately get laid. It was cute and a tad humorous. So somewhere around 2003/2004 this word 'emo' becomes the new term to describe 'goth' kids. You know long black hair, mascara, black nail-polish, now Hot Topic/Spencer gen. I kinda get it these kids are whiny and want to get laid too. But they stay at home cry and 'psst!' cut themselves... Though it baffles me how things get lost in translation.
So 'emotronica'... what's that you may ask? Simple. Whiny kids who want to get laid now applying more 80's style synth elements from the 'new wave' movement with maybe some guitars and real drums but their vocals are distorted using a special mic that makes it robotic so to speak. Is any of this music good? Yes. Some of it is. The most prominent one I suggest is 'PlayRadioPlay' and 'The Secret Handshake'. Though what probably prompted this movement all together would be 'The Postal Service' and if you like them. May I suggest 'Figurine' one member of 'Postal Service' whom have a song called 'New Mate' where one of the lines goes 'my mascara is running down my cheek, haven't left the house in over a week...'. So get your razorblades ready kiddies. There's a lot of work to do.
