Deathmetzen? Metzenwing? Bleh.

Some voice clips of Deathwing have been uncovered. Like a LOT of characters in game, Blizzard mucky-muck and lore chief Chris Metzen does the voice work. Again? Meh.

My comments, as copy-and-pasted from Wow.com...

I really WANT to love this, but I just can't un-hear it as Thrall talking inside a metal closet. :(

Metzen does some really good voices, and I love him as Thrall, and even Varian is okay by me, but we really should have somebody new for Deathwing. He's a hugely significant character and he needs to sound distinctive. Judging by these clips, he doesn't. You need to be able to recognize his voice instantly when he starts taunting you from halfway across a zone, or whatever.

I also agree with what some previous commenters said, how he should be confident and condescending. This cataclysm is his finest hour. He has the entire world running around in a panic, completely blindsided by this surprise attack. He has no need of typical villain rhetoric. In his mind he's already won.

He may be crazy, sure, but he's a master of manipulation and scheming. "Lady Katrana" learned from the best, and her masquerade in Stormwind all those years was a classic example of black dragonflight machinations.

What I love about Deathwing is that one moment he's plotting an intricate, Machiavellian scheme to undermine his enemies from within and pit them against each other, and the next he's making entire mountain ranges explode and dropping towns into chasms of lava. The juxtaposition of a cunning mind in the body of a roaring monster is what makes him such a cool character to me.

I admit this is a small sample of voice clips to go on, but I'm just not getting "evil but paranoid genius relishing his long-awaited and decisive victory" vibes. I'm getting "Bwahaha, Bad Guy #478200162 is evil just because."
