Mystery goldfish cause car smash
Thursday, May 24, 2007

Five people were badly hurt including three children after the cars they were travelling in swerved to avoid goldfish that had been left on the road.

Police were yesterday (Thu) trying to find out how the goldfish that were in a water filled plastic bag came to be in the middle of the road in Paderborn.

Mother Marianne Schmitt, 47, slammed on the breaks of her Fiesta when she spotted the bag in the road, but drivers behind her could not stop in time and five cars piled into each other.

The crash left five people in hospital although none of them are in danger.

Police said the goldfish had been taken to a pet shop.

A spokesman said: 'We have no idea yet how the goldfish got there but it looks like they came from a fun fair where they were one of the prizes on offer at the stalls.'

Plastic surgery for 'ugly' goldfish
Wednesday, September 13, 2006

It's not easy being a goldfish.

You swim around a bit. You eat some food. Sometimes people forget to feed you, and you die. Other times, you eat too much food, and die. People mock you for your poor memory. The last thing you'd need would be additional body-image issues to lower your self-esteem that little bit more.

Which is probably why a goldfish at the Royal Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh has just has cosmetic surgery, after visitors complained that it was too ugly.

It seems that visitors were frequently going up to the reception desk to point out that the fish looked ill and that it had an unsightly lump coming out of its head. Children were also reported to be worried about the unnamed fish and its growth.

So bosses at the Museum decided that - while the fish appeared perfectly happy swimming around with a lump on its head - that it should have surgery to remove the unpleasant imperfection.

The operation seems to have been a resounding success, unless you count the fact that they also had to remove one of the fishes eyes along with the lump. Which could probably also be described as 'unsightly'.

The operation was paid for out of the money visitors would throw into the fish pond.

Crazy stuff. ^_^
