Ginny/Tom is like Christine Daae/Erik the Phantom of the Opera. Think about it! The underground lair. She's in love with someone else (Harry, Raoul) but can't deny that she also feels something for this dark stranger. Christine hears voices in her mirror; Ginny has a talking diary. "You alone can make my song take flight," sings Erik, and Ginny's life force is essential to Tom's plans. Both Tom and Erik are orphans/abandoned. Christine is forced to participate in the Don Juan production despite the fact that it endangered her colleagues and herself; Ginny killed roosters, painted the walls with messages and set the basilisk loose. I won't go so far as to compare the Phantom's mask to Death Eater masks, but...Voldemort isn't exactly pretty to look at.
