"Summer Skies: Kisame x Itachi" (FIC)

Jun 28, 2010 18:41

Not what you expected, right? When I saw a fireworks show in town, I had to write about one! And, I thought, "Hey! Why not Kisame and Itachi?" (Sorry, if you were looking forward to a KakuHidan; I'll do one next time) But, please do enjoy.

Rated PG for mild language. Shonen Ai Warning. Enjoy! ^.^

The dusk-lit sky faded to night like a dying ember ebbs to darkness. Crickets chirped shrilly in a cacophony, regaling the world with their summer melodies. Concealed in the dark of night and the shade of their traditional bamboo hats and uniform cloaks, two travellers crossed the vast Fire Country through its oceanic countryside.

As they continued on, eventually, Kisame's breath became ragged and strained. "Itachi!" he called ahead to his departing partner, managing between gasps for air. "I n-need a break!"

Itachi said nothing, but paused to allow Kisame to rehydrate himself.

Kisame sat down atop a large stone embedded at the side of the road. He rummaged through his clouded cloak and fished out a sports bottle that he uncorked and took a deep drink, heaving a relieved sigh afterwards. "Ahh, much better!" he smiled, exposing his razor-sharp maw.

Inconvenient as it was, Kisame was (literally) a fish out of water; forced to make frequent stops to drink some water so that he did not dry out completely.

Despite its hinderance to the expedience of the mission, Itachi was never bothered by Kisame's quandry. He merely stopped in his tracks, and resumed when Kisame was ready to go, which he was quick to do so.

However, this time, Kisame took a good while, sipping his drink at a more leisurely pace. As he knocked back the last of his water, he began to survey the star-dappled sky with undivided fascination. He sighed contentedly, relishing in the alien feel of some soft nighttime breezes caressing his gills.

"Kisame," Itachi called to his preoccupied partner. "Beautiful night, isn't it?"

The shark man cowed over, flabbergasted. "Y-Y-Yes! Awesome!" Is Itachi actually intiatiing a conversation with me? he gulped nervously, blushing. "Wh-What do you think of it, I-Itachi?" Kisame fidgetted with his eyes to the ground, trying (but failing) to regain his faultering composure.

"Its...one of the clearest nights I've seen in a long time," Itachi replied with his back turned to his companion.

Kisame's brow furrowed in both confusion and wonderment. He was always so enthralled by Itachi, the elder Uchiha survivor. Not only was Itachi engimatic and incredibly powerful as a shinobi, he was also a silent beauty: ensnaring the mist ninja in an entrapment of enrapture.

Itachi...Kisame blushed, smiling. "You seem so at home."

"?" Itachi glanced over his shoulder to the shark man. "What do you mean?"

"Oh, nothing," Kisame grinned, waving a manicured hand to gesticulate a 'never mind.' "Forget it."

"If you say so," replied Itachi curtly.

An awkward silence passed between the two men. The once warm breeze suddenly felt cold to Kisame as a chill of horrific realization coursed down his spine. Perhaps I shouldn't have said that...

"Itachi..."Kisame called somberly.

But, before the shark man could utter another word, a thunderous explosion shocked the transient calm of the countryside, and bright blossoms of color lit the sky.

The blindsided Kisame bolted from his perch atop the rock. "...the hell?!"

Itachi smirked a bit at Kisame's comical reaction to the fireworks display of a nearby village, softly emitting an audible "heh."

Kisame noticed Itachi's smile and returned it with a soft blush.

The fireworks continued to light up the sky with multi-colored brilliance.

Itachi and Kisame eventually sat together on the stone, watching the hypnotic array  of flashing colors blaze the sky. By the end, Kisame lost himself to desire and snaked his arm around Itachi's waist, pulling the weasel close to him. To his astonishment, Itachi did not retaliate or protest. Instead, he rested his head against Kisame's proud shoulder like a pillow, snuggling deeper into the shark man's touch.

As the last of the irridescent spark showered back down to earth and died away, Kisame smiled at Itachi, who was nodding off to sleep. Unable to catch or, much less, stop himself, Kisame laughed out loud, rousing the Uchiha from his drowsiness.

"Mmn...Kisame...?" Itachi yawned sleepily, rubbing at his bleary Sharingan.

"Forgive me," managed Kisame in between his soft laughter. "I just never seen you sleep. It's cute."

A salmon blush heated Itachi's pallid cheeks as he muttered, "Don't call me cute. It' s degrading to a man."
"But, you are soooooo cute!" Kisame gushed lightly, touseling Itachi's coarse black hair. "I mean, it's hardly like you are a man at all."

"Your days are numbered, Sushi Boy," Itachi grumbled under his breath, glaring up at Kisame, who only smiled at him with endearment.

Itachi...Kisame asks himself. Remember our first kiss? You looked so cute-even when you were all pissed off. But, in that kiss, I swore...

Kisame leaned forward to press against Itachi's warm, velvety lips.

We set off our own fireworks.
