A winner of a day

Had a good cry in my boss' office today. It was the best! I am not humiliated and mad at myself for professional self-sabotage at all! And frankly the issue, while thorny and somewhat upsetting, was not at all worth crying about, so what the hell, self. UGH ( Read more... )

Oh, huh, that doesn't stand for "yes/no" like it's a choose your own adventure story, huh?

I hope tomorrow's workday goes better and that you have a nice restorative weekend.

It does not! Although someone else suggested that when I was telling them this story.

That sounds like an awesome work day!! (or, you know, NOT AWESOME.)

Hahahha, this is what I thought of Y/N:

I kept scrolling past all these fanfics featuring a character named Y/N. So at first, I thought, "Awww, bless. Someone's being creative in their naming." But then there were new installments of Y/N's story all the time. So I thought maybe it was one big long story written by a fan of Snow Crash and instead of Y.T. (yours truly) they named their character Yes/No. An homage as it were.

But then the evidence started mounting, and I decided this could not possibly be the work of one person....

It took me a really long time to figure out Y/N. I thought it stood for Yes/No, but that didn't make any sense!

Oh thank goodness it wasn't just me. Characters have weird names sometimes! We didn't have this kind of explicit self-insert fic Back In My Day! How was I to know?

*offers tea and cookies*

I haven't seen Y/n, but I have seen [character name]/Reader, which is good because it gives me advance notice to avoid the story. I have become so snobbish! Misspelling in the summary? Skip. All sorts of specific content tags? Skip.

Oh god I have been eating so much sugar. I have got to detox or something, all I want is sweets.

Well, don't call it snobbish. Call it "sensibly managing your time, which you are more aware is limited than is the average teenager." I am 100% sure I do not want to read explicit self-insert fic, so why waste everybody's time?

(I am getting pretty ruthless about backing straight out of stories if the first couple of paragraphs makes me wrinkle my nose a bit writing-wise. Glad you're having fun! Your story may be quite good and I am missing something by giving up on it so soon! But life is too short.)

Now I think we should create an assassin named Y/N, and request her in Yuletide.

Well, we'd just have to write original fic featuring the deadly Y/N, upload it, and request it next year...

Aw, man, that sucks. I'm sorry. Sympathies.

Last week I basically did that at a joint meeting of the College Councils, so I very much get how that feels.

But, on the flipside, there should probably be an assassin named Y/n, and it would be brilliant.

Thank you. Somewhat hilariously, my boss has completely avoided discussing the subject. I'm like, damn, I have a breakdown in your office and a meeting a couple of days later on the topic and you don't check in with me?

Except I don't want to actually say "dude, I need you to take an interest," because do I really? Most of the time, no.
