I'll miss you, pretty sugar maples (five things make a post)

1) I just bought a $20 borescope on Amazon, which I plan to use to look inside my wall to see if my guess that there were originally pocket doors on the entrances to my living room is correct. (I'm pretty sure that if there were, they're gone - at least from the one that I can access easily because, uh, the electrical outlet doesn't have a box, which I'm pretty sure it should. Oh well.

So, fair warning, local folks with laptops, I may ask to borrow yours, given that mine was STOLEN, grump. (This is honestly the first time I've missed it since the break-in, which was in February, so clearly buying one is not worth it at this point.)

2) I have no idea why suddenly this year my upstairs neighbor is so into football, but suddenly this year my neighbor is really into football. I can track whether or not the Patriots are scoring by his yelling - and the floors and walls are pretty thick here, I rarely hear much of anything from upstairs. I mean, I'm glad he's having fun? Maybe he used to go somewhere else for games and that's why this is new.

3) Next week I am getting my back porch painted. No really! I mean, originally it was going to happen "in October," and then two weeks ago it was going to happen "next week," but this time I"m sure he means it. SIGH. I don't even know, people, would I not get jerked around like this if I weren't a woman? I did get a very satisfying level of response on an IT problem at work that had been just dragging on and dragging on and dragging on by breaking out a regulatory issue that I was being prevented from complying with and also deleting everything friendly in the email once I'd written it. Which I felt bad about, but does appear to have finally convinced people that it's an actual problem.

Anyway, it turns out the back porch also needs repairing, but I don't have the money for that at the moment, it isn't urgent, and leaving it unpainted will just make things worse for the poor wood. So! One step at a time.

4) Speaking of which, I have removed almost everything from my back/computer/guest room that had migrated in here over the time I've lived in this house because I didn't know where to put it. I'm pretty proud of this. The minus is that the "to bring to Goodwill" pile in my living room has reached epic proportions, and also the logical place to put one thing meant I emptied out a chest and left the contents strewn across my living room floor. But! One step at a time!

I still have to figure out where to put purchased presents, get a few cassette tapes digitized, and figure out whether I want to keep or get rid of my DVD storage/stand thing - it's repurposeable, I'm just not sure what I'd use it for. Oh, and get rid of my broken computer speakers, which are hidden behind the monitor and so I forget. I am a home organization champion and it's only taken me, uh, how long have I lived here? Three years?

5) I've been watching more TV lately and am suddenly drowning in it, at least partly because I've decided to try out a few of the sophomore shows that people liked last year. I will probably keep The Flash - which is charming and I'm a sucker, even though I don't actually think much of its quality - and I'll be interested to see what happens with Jane the Virgin, which I've only watched the season premiere of so far. It certainly gets a trial three episodes, but I can't tell yet whether it's going to end up being a show that is adorable and great and Not Actually My Thing. I think it'll depend on how much emotional investment they manage to give me in the characters over the next couple of episodes. In the premiere the one I attached to was Michael, which I felt terrible about because come on, one white dude in the cast and he's the one I feel for? But come on, how could I not! (I assume he's secretly evil or something, I haven't looked it up.)
