Flash drive question

Mar 20, 2008 18:18

Okay, so. Let's say I had a file on my flash drive open, and then accidentally knocked the computer's plug out of the wall, thus requiring me to a) turn the computer back on and b) remove the flash drive without ejecting it in order to be able to turn the computer back on. Let us further say that, having done so, opening the flash drive shows no files whatsoever, but that checking its properties shows that 28.4 MB are used. (The files are mostly word processing files, though there may be a couple of PowerPoint presentations on there.)

Here's my question: Are those files still there? Is there any way for me to get at them? Or are they gone to that big hard drive in the sky?

ETA: Ah, but when I try defragmenting it says there are no files there. Oh well. Annoying, given that I'd actually started working on that WiP again, but most of the actual prose is still on my home computer so I suppose it isn't the end of the world.
