BSG 4x18: Someone To Watch Over Me

Mar 01, 2009 13:50

I've gotta say, I've been disappointed by fandom before, but the sheer negativity surrounding this episode for what wasn't in it while ignoring what was in it takes the cake. I mean, I don't blame people for being disappointed with "Deadlock" (which I did not like) and "No Exit" (which I did not dislike), but I don't understand how people who watch ( Read more... )

About Kara: I think I understand what people are trying to get at when they talk about the balance of characters in this episode and I do understand that there have been instances in which things have been dragged out when they could have been much shorter without losing much, if anything. But I just don't agree that this was one of them, not when it's Kara Thrace we're talking about ( ... )

I didn't really have any qualms with the episode, but I do hate that there are just too many story lines and not enough time to delve into each one. I loved the Kara/Slick scenes, probably some of my favourite in season 4 thus far and I was glad to have Boomer back. As far as A/R, I just felt like Laura needed more time on screen for her collapse to be more poignant. However, how would that have been done in the time? So, I understand why they did it and it makes me look forward to the DVD's.

I liked the episode though and I hope that Kara's version of The Final Four Theme is on the soundtrack for S4! LOL!! :D

I think I just hit on their evil plan.

To buy the 4.5 DVDs as soon as they're available.

Like I said, I think a number of things may have gotten shuffled around or added or tossed out when RDM rewrote the finale and there's a chance that this cut subplot:

A. will come into play next week or the following week;

B. is no longer viable within the continuity of the show;

or 3. never be heard from again.

A or B are my bets. Hopefully, they'll put them on the DVD anyway. That Eye of Jupiter deleted scene wouldn't have fit with what came afterward IMO, because Bill was generally PISSED and the fact that he would have just come from shaving and talking things out calmly with Laura did not jive with what I saw.

I actually quite liked the fact that the piano guy was in Kara's head.... what wrong do people see in it? Really... cylons have projection, right? So... someone representing Kara's dad was really sweet idea.

And.... wow.... Katie.... I have totally forgotten about the baby she killed in the miniseries!!! You are sooo right- the baby's death can indeed be seen as a punishment for that... wow. This is what I call to wake up from a deep sleep ^_^ How could I forget about that baby... I soo hated Caprica back there for killing it- the little one was soo sweet...

the other stuff we already talked about. Once again- I am disappointed by the way RDM handled the situation but I still like him as an artist. However, that finale better be good because I'm pissed off.

Well, Romo's not a Cylon and he was seeing his dead cat. Baltar's not a Cylon and he sees Head!Six (and I really don't think she's a chip in his head). Bill's not a Cylon and he saw Head!Carolanne. I don't think these head characters (aside from HeadSix) have anything to do with being a Cylon. HeadSix aside, because she was conceived for a different purpose, the rest of these head characters have seemingly filled some sort of short-term need that each of the characters had to fulfill in order to get through a day or work their way through something ( ... )

Good observations with the head!characters, Katie :)

I decided to watch High Society after the end of BSG because of the same reasons- some laugh after the finale will do me only good. DS9 is next and supernatural and farscape... wow- I have too much to watch and too little time...

I really did love this ep, more than I expected, despite the lack of A/R. I think what sold it for me was the music- it was just classic BSG, manipulating my emotions so easily and so skilfully...I'm not a Kara fan but I was enthralled during what could've been a dead boring scene of 'character growth'. I was faked out, but it was good! I was a little sheepish later that I didn't realize of course the piano dude was never there, but still, I got so caught up in the moment, I couldn't analyze or think about anything else. So that's a compliment to the show.

I love this projection deal. In Star Trek, my favorite invention was the holodeck- here, definitely hanging out for the projection. I'd love to be a Cylon, they get all these awesome abilities.

I wasn't a Tyrol/Boomer fan. Everyone knows I loved Chief/Cally and therefore I really had to put my fanbase agenda on mute. Or I thought I had to, anyway.What's with these writers, huh? Tyrol leaves Boomer, and then finds out he's a Cylon. Tigh kills Ellen, finds out they're both Cylons ( ... )

The piano guy was in Kara's head? I never saw that, when did they show that?

I liked the episode. The only episode I haven't liked was the first one in 4.5.

What was the A/R subplot any way?
