I've been doing some thinking...

... and I'm probably going to go on a little hiatus for a bit. I'll still be around commenting on BSG, but that's probably about it. It's pretty clear to me that there aren't many places where my opinions are welcome/downright ridiculed and I don't like arguing with my friends. Because you're all my friends. I love you guys, my old friends and my ( Read more... )

I actually respect the fact that you stand up for what you think and believe and wish more people were like you. I don't feel that stating your mind is in anyway dismissive to other people. My personal point of view is always be yourself. While I haven't always agreed with your point of view in a comment or two on Battlestar Blog, I've never thought you were "bitchy" or "mean" or "dengrating" to anyone, just had a different colorful point of view. I think though, that sometimes a person or two in the LJ communities from whence we met have had their own strong opinions as well and some head butting occurred, but overall people don't think ill of you - just one or two people whose opinions I think are too strongly voiced and frequently in a negative way at just about everybody over there anyway. Sometimes I want to yell "it's just a show, get a life" at people who take great offence to harmless opinions, but there you go.

I hope you didn't suffer because of me over at the one LJ site. I know two of the other people who showed me support (one public and one in PMs) DID get virtually bitch-slapped by my dissenters, and who knows how many others may have suffered. If THAT particular problem is the case, realize that you are not alone and maybe the disease was in the community and I am sorry for any part that I may have played in your current down-mood.

As for political, sister, I voted Hillary Clinton in the primaries, there was a reason that race was close and went on longer than any other in the history of the country. Don't feel bad for your beliefs. I did vote Obama in November, and I do feel like an 8 year hell has been lifted from my vision and hope that we can move forward, but honestly, I think I would have a similar sense of hope no matter who had won primaries/elections. I don't always agree with lots of my cyber friends (and real friends) on political output, but we always agree on what we ultimately want in the world (less poverty, better education, less screwed up environment, peace, etc) just not quite how to get there.

So, my advice, keep being yourself. Tell those who can't handle your strong opinions or respect them to go to hell. But at the same time, realize that if you want people to respect (i.e. not turn into personal attacks, etc..) your opinions, that you should respect theirs. There is nothing wrong with healthy debate.
