Blowing the cobwebs away

Oct 02, 2021 16:10

We went to Brighton for the day on Thursday and it was just the sort of day that my mother would have prescribed to get rid of a cold and "blow the cobwebs away". The wind was blowing really strongly which meant that there were actual waves, which is the way I really prefer the sea.

A picture of some foamy sea under the cut.

We walked along the front to Hove and then took refuge in our favourite fish restaurant. For some reason it has a cult following among Chinese students and even in these covid times there were some there eating shellfish and other adventurous fish but I'm afraid we stuck to our traditional fish and chips. I always mean to try something different there but somehow the lure of cod and chips always defeats my more exciting intentions. I don't know why it is but whenever we go into a restaurant now the food seems more delicious and the staff more welcoming than before the pandemic. I presume no-one takes it so much for granted now.

In other news: my friend Julia turned up unexpectedly on Sunday morning with her mother in a wheelchair to pick our brains about a nearby road that her daughter is thinking of moving into. It was lovely to see them both as I've known both Julia and her mother since I was five or six. Her mother is nearly 90 now but still as sharp as a tack. It was a very sociable day as in the afternoon we went dog walking in the park with my brother, sister-in-law, niece R and partner. It was lovely to see them all again too as due to covid, covid isolation and holidays we haven't seen them for a while.

Back to the meme.

26. Do you ever look up actors you think you recognize in movies and shows?
Yes, otherwise I drive myself crazy trying to remember where I've seen them before.

27. Do you prefer earphones or over the ear headphones?
I used to wear over the ear headphones for a lot of the day at work so really I prefer ear buds but they don't fit my ears very well. J bought me an expensive pair where you could change the size but they still fitted only one ear and not the other so I'm back with headphones now.

28. Do you remember when you first went on the internet?
It must have been at work but I don't remember the date possibly 1995 or 6. At home it was 1998.

29. What is one thing that you refuse to ever do in your lifetime?
Sky dive.

30. Which one of your friends is the most outgoing?

Probably C, as she is an ex-GP so knows how to chat to people from the moment of first meeting them.

On to October.

1. Do you like rain?
In moderation and if I don't have to be out in it. Today it has been raining for most of the day so I'm getting a little tired of it as I usually go out for a walk, but I think I'm going to give the walk a miss today.

2. Have you seen someone recently you used to talk to, but don’t anymore?
I saw Julia on Sunday but I don't talk to her any more in the sense of not seeing her often rather than having fallen out with her.

The rest of the October questions are behind the cut.
