A mixed day
It was a good day for the outer suburbs of South London yesterday as Palace beat Spurs 3-0 and Emma Raducanu won the women's US Open Tennis Championship. One on those things has certainly never happened before and I'm pretty sure the other one hasn't either. I banned myself from the room as J was watching the tennis as I am a total jinx so I followed the match on the BBC webpage and occasionally asked J if it was safe for me to watch yet :)
I'm putting the next bit behind a cut as it involves a sad anniversary.
There were two sad anniversaries yesterday, one everyone knows about and the other is only relevant to a small number of people. It is 9 years since my dad died. He wasn't big on anniversaries and always said that they were "just another day" but we raised a glass to him yesterday and I missed him very much, as I do every day, so just another day then.

6. Have you ever won a competition? If so, what was it and what did you win?
I won a prize for the best nature diary at school when I was 7 but I didn't win anything and I think it was more due to excellent work by my parents than me. I was a runner up in a prize to pick the most important element in a hit pop song (not really my current field of expertise) for the magazine Fab208 (I think) and the prize was one of those LPs with covers of the hits of the year. If we hadn't had a vinyl cull a few years back, before vinyl came back into fashion, I would probably still have it but I can't believe it survived the cull.
7. Did you ever take classes for a musical instrument when you were younger?
I learnt the violin briefly but was memorably terrible and the violin gave me up in protest.
8. How often do you walk around barefoot?
Very seldom. I used to but an encounter with some broken glass put me off.
9. What architectural style was your childhood home?
1950s flats followed by a suburban 1920s house.
10. Who do you usually say hello or good morning first?
To J obviously.
11. When was the last time you visited the park? Who did you go with?
As we have a park very near us my last visit was Thursday and I wasn't with anyone as I was going for an afternoon walk and J was waiting in for something to be delivered.
12. What language did you take in high school?
French, German (briefly) and Latin. I have O Levels in French and Latin, which is quite surprising as I'm terrible at languages.
