Yet Again Same Old (Day 162 since Lockdown)

Aug 31, 2020 16:35

It's actually a Bank Holiday today but doesn't feel much like it as I had my usual Paracise class this morning and there is nothing really to mark out the day. I seem to have spent quite a lot of the weekend on the phone with a long call to my cousin P, who is very bored but has had to isolate for months due to his serious health issues, my friend L and our friends D & K in Bournemouth. We speak to D & K every week but they had a quite active week going to a socially distanced birthday party so it was fun to hear how that had gone (it rained which caused a few problems).

I bit the bullet and went to Waterstones on Saturday. I haven't been avoiding Waterstones due to coronavirus issues but to try and avoid buying any more books. Needless to say I failed and added to my enormous TBR pile, but it was nice to be in a bookshop again, though it was very quiet. The town centre itself was quite busy with a large queue in front of the bank and another big queue outside Clarks which gave me a reminiscent shudder as there is a little bit of me which still associates the smelll of new shoes with the start of the school year.

On with the meme.

28. Do you write in cursive?

Yes, mostly. I'm left-handed and we were taught to write Italic at school which was a complete pain at the time as I needed a left-handed nib and found it hard, but I'm grateful now as it helped to shape my handwriting. I used to write quite well but typing so much has meant my handwriting has got much worse but it is still reasonably legible, if much messier than it used to be.

29. If you could witness any event of the past, present, or future, what would it be?

Oh, the temptation! What to pick? I would quite like to witness an event that solved a minor historical mystery (not touching the Princes in the Tower with a barge pole) like who is buried in the Sutton Hoo ship which would be a spectacular thing to see anyway, or some famous meeting like the first encounter between Henry of Anjou and Eleanor of Aquitaine. If I'm really forced to choose however I'd like to go to the court of Elizabeth I and witness one of the Accession Day tilts which would be absolutely spectacular and I could gawp at the queen from a safe distance in the crowds. Or alternatively I'd love to see one of the Frost Fairs on the Thames or... it's too hard to choose.

30. Do you have a favorite painting? (Post a picture?)

Another question that's too hard to give a single answer. It depends what mood I'm in. Again if I'm force to choose it would probably be something by Turner and although The Fighting Temeraire is really obvious I'm going to pick it because the combination of colour, light and subject is just stunning. It's a picture I never get tired of looking at.

31. Do you swear a lot?

Every word is not an expletive but I have been known to swear to myself. I don't usually do it in front of other people apart from J though.
