On Thursday night I couldn't sleep because the weather was unbearably hot, last night I couldn't sleep because torrential rain was beating against our bedroom window. I wish the weather would calm down a bit. We had been out on Thursday because J had booked tickets to go and see Noises Off at the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith. What he didn't know was that he would pick the hottest day ever recorded (possibly) in the UK and that we would be in a theatre without air-conditioning. The theatre did do their best to keep the audience cool by providing water everywhere and free ice creams in the interval but it was still very gruelling. Luckily the play was very funny and the actors still managed to give a very energetic performance despite the boiling weather. I don't know how they did it but it is a tribute to them that my eyes didn't shut even once.
I should apologise for not posting for ages but we have been quite busy. Last month we finally went on our delayed Rhine cruise and had a wonderful time. There may be a post about it some time if I ever sort my photos or get a decent night's sleep. Some other highlights have a trip to the Bridge Theatre to see a wonderful production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, an outing to the opera (very unusual for us) to see La Fille du Regiment by Donizetti, and last Monday, before the heat really hit, we finally managed to go on the Harry Potter Studio Tour which was an absolute delight. I had expected to enjoy it but was completely enchanted.
When not dashing about we have been trying to turn our garden into a garden rather than a jungle and make our house look as if someone hasn't dumped "stuff" all over every surface. So far we've been rather more successful with the garden than the house so I'd better get back to more sorting.
On our current political situation I have no words really but I did agree with this tweet posted the other day.
The News: Boris Johnson becoming PM; Britain heading for hottest day in its history. Or to put it another way: we are literally entering hell.

July 23, 2019 I hope I won't be as long before posting again but I can't promise. Hope you are all well and keeping cool and/or dry whichever is appropriate.
