The Dragon in the Tower

Sorry I haven't been around very much for a while. My mother is still having health problems which don't seem to be getting any better and it's all rather draining so I don't have much energy left for LJ . It's just the kind of time when I would love a fannish rabbit hole to fall down but nothing seems to be appealing at the moment. It's not all doom and gloom though, we have done some very nice things recently including a trip to see Rupert Young in High Society which was massively entertaining.

A few weeks ago we also went to the Tower of London and encountered this chap who I instantly fell in love with. His name is Keeper and he's made out of items traditionally stored in the Tower. Apparently it used to be a tradition of the Royal Armouries to make fantastic beasts out of armaments and they've revived it.

He has pistols for claws and the coins in his stomach are to symbolise the Royal Mint which was in the Tower at one point.

Just to add to the excitement when we were leaving the Tower this happened.

I haven't been reading much fanfic at all recently but the History Exchange is live and contains a story I absolutely loved. It's called Time and Chance or Five lives which Eleanor of Aquitaine never lived and is a wonderful and ingenious re-imagining of how Eleanor's life might have gone if certain small things had been changed. I've never seen the Five Lives fic idea applied to a real person before and it's fascinating to consider what tiny chances can alter lives and history. Go read.
