September's a bit of a strange month for me, full of good and bad anniversaries, but I'd totally forgotten one of the good ones until
mrs_leary posted about it this morning. It is, of course, 5 years today since I sat down one Saturday night to watch a new TV series about my beloved Arthurian legends. I wasn't very optimistic because I'd been really disappointed by the BBC version of Robin Hood, but I ended up being charmed by the first episode of Merlin. I didn't lose my heart to the show until the second episode but the first episode was so fresh and so much fun that I was hooked from the beginning.
I've been really grateful to Merlin for providing me with a cheering distraction during quite a difficult period in my life. The fandom has been fresh and fun like the show, and creative beyond belief. I've read and am still reading some of the most amazing fic I've ever read in half a lifetime of fanfic reading, the artwork is beyond stunning and there are a continuous supply of brilliant vids, gifs and fests galore. I've met some wonderful people, made lovely new friends and basically had a fantastic time. I'm even grateful to Merlin for sending us back to the theatre: first we thought it would be fun to see Anthony Head in Six Degrees of Separation, then we went to see Richard Wilson in Twelfth Night and discovered that we really enjoyed going to the theatre regularly.
In celebration I can't resist posting a couple of vids that always make me laugh. First the Merlin contribution to Children in Need in 2009

Thanks to everyone and Happy Five Years of Merlin Day. I think I feel a rewatch coming on :)
