It appears to be the 200th anniversary of the publication of "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen. I'd love to write a detailed literary appreciation but it's years since I actually read it rather than watched it on the telly. I do know it well enough to know that Mr Darcy did not actually swim the lake at Pemberley in the novel, which is a great shame, but I'm sure if Jane Austen had thought of it she would have included the moment that made period drama sexy. In honour of P&P and all those other novels that were turned into TV series starring very handsome men here is

For a slightly more serious take on P&P the Telegraph has
a quiz (I got one wrong I'm ashamed to say) and The Guardian has
a new look at some of the characters. Maybe it's time I read the novel again as I'm not sure I agree with some of the judgments on the characters.
