Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside

It's been very sad on my LJ for a while so in an effort to cheer things up a bit here's a holiday pic spam.

First we went to Cambridge to meet my American cousin again and saw some slightly weird things

If you look closely you will see there's a man in that bin. I heard the music, looked round for someone with a ghetto blaster and then saw him. He's called The Singing Binman apparently. Each to their own!

We went to the Botanical Gardens which were pretty rather than weird, apart from the "Don't Feed the Plants" notice

I didn't see any hungry looking plants but this one looked a little alien

The Botanical Gardens were very lovely and my photos don't really do them justice but I liked the different leaves in this one

A more traditional Cambridge scene

After Cambridge it was off to Wales again. We'd stayed in The Mumbles briefly two years ago and really liked the B&B and the very brief glimpse we got of the Gower Peninsula so we decided to go back for more.

Our B&B had a fabulous view of Swansea Bay which is spectacularly large. The tide goes out an enormously long way which leads to absolutely fascinating light as sun (if you're lucky) bounces off the wet sand and water. The hills in the distance and the smoke belching from Port Talbot (which you can't see in the photo) make it even more interesting. What's really amazing is that when the tide comes in it comes all the way in and all of this is covered by water. A panoramic shot because I couldn't resist one and it also shows the "interesting" weather :)

We spent quite a lot of time dodging heavy showers but only got soaked through twice, which was quite an achievement as we did manage to do some walking. We had a lovely walk from Pennard Cliffs (the Three Cliffs Bay Cafe comes highly recommended) to Three Cliffs Bay, which had some gorgeous sea views.

Pennard Cliffs

Three Cliffs Bay

I wanted to get to Pennard Castle but it was just too muddy so we'll have to go back (if only for the cake at the Three Cliffs Bay Cafe *g*).

We went to Rhossili the last time we stayed in The Mumbles but I loved it so we had to see it again.

Ponies posing above Rhossili Bay. Keen Torchwood viewers might recognise the isolated cottage as Gwen and Rhys's hideaway in "Miracle Day".

The path to the Worm's Head

The last time we were here the wind was so strong I could barely stand up and the tide was right in. This time the breeze was much gentler and the tide was going out.

Having read "The Wheel of Fortune" by Susan Howatch I wanted to see what the route to the Worm's Head looked like with the tide out so we walked around the headland and came across the lovely Fall Bay.

Then it was back to see where the tide had got to

Almost there and with people starting to head down the path to cross. The coast guard was keeping a close eye on how many people attempted the crossing.

We came back a bit later and went down to the edge of the rocks but crossing it was rather beyond us. You can't see from the photo but some people had actually got right up onto the ridge of the Worm.

The weather was starting to turn so we didn't push our luck with the rain any more but I couldn't resist another shot of Rhossili Bay
