Local universe gets new portrait. Meteor shower at 11.

Temporary news:
Tonight- Thursday the 13th through early Friday the 14th- is the peak night for the Geminid meteor shower.  If you have clear skies and it's after 10pm, then take a look.

Extrasolar planet news:
1. Haze detected in extrasolar planet. HD 189733b is a hot Jupiter type planet now thought to have a high-atmosphere haze of iron, silicates and aluminium oxide dust. We are looking at haze on a planet 63 light years away.
2. Gliese 581d may be in a habitable zone.

1 billion year old news:
Large Scale Structure in the Local Universe. Picture below. Our galaxy is part of the Local Group (5M light years) and the Virgo Supercluster (100M light years). To get a sense of the scale of these,  I recommend An Atlas of the Universe.
