Thoughts on excitement & God

Something unrelated from Ken Davis, because it amused me:There are some advantages to being old. In a hostage situation, I’m likely to be released first. At my age, no one expects me to run into a burning building. No one expects me to even run. At least I know the clothes I buy now won’t have time to wear out.
And... I've been thinking about a couple things lately, and am curious to hear others' thoughts.

I was listening to the radio a couple days ago, and heard someone talking about how the things we should be "glorying in" aren't what we do for God, or that we're Christians, but instead our focus should be on God, and how great He is. Also, that we ought to be thinking of how we can help others see how great He is.

So then my mind meandered off with that thought, and I started thinking about how it's so much easier for me to feel excited about something when someone else is excited about it. And then, that its pretty easy for us to get excited about other stuff, but spiritual stuff is usually pretty stuffy or religious or whatever... like it's in its own special "very holy" category. You know? Not like we think it's wrong, exactly, to be excited about spiritual stuff... but we don't usually. We get more excited about a new movie or CD or book or event than we do about what God's been teaching us. We are more likely to talk to others about the weather, work, life, than to talk about God- Even little stuff like "Hey, God is so amazing- listen to what He's been doing in my life lately!"

And... I don't want to be like that. I don't want to talk about the Lord because I feel like I ought to, but I want it just to happen because He's such a part of my thoughts & my life.
Well, like a girl who can't seem to help talking about her Beloved. It just happens :-) He is such a part of her thoughts & life, talking about him happens as naturally as breathing :-)
I don't like the "God is my boyfriend" perspective, but this illustration seems to fit what I'm trying to say. :-)

So, what think you? And is it such a difficult thing for you too, or is it just me? :-)
