Today was a public holiday - Austrian National Day - so it was a bit like Sunday in that I was determined not to go far from the lakeside in case there were bus problems and I had to get a taxi back to the hotel.
My only requirement for today was to get a new train/bus ticket as mine is expiring at the end of today. I had thought I might need to go to Innsbruck, but in the end I got it at Jenbach.
Conveniently the Achenseebahn was just getting ready to head up to the lake as I finished getting my ticket and, well, since I have a new Erlebniscard, it would have been frankly silly not to take it, wouldn't it?
So I jumped on board. As the weather is excellent at the moment, it was quite busy but there was still enough room for everyone.
By the way, can anyone explain to me why people who choose to travel on a steam-train find the smells and the idea of smoke and steam to be so repulsive? As soon as there is any hint of either, everyone in the train dives for the windows and tries to shut them. Today there were even complaints that they windows couldn't be closed completely! Surely it should occur to people at least once that the trains might not be squeaky clean...
Anyway after the train-ride, I decided to have the full experience and lined up to get on the boat. As it was the same staff as yesterday, the stewardess recognised me and called me through the queue of people waiting to purchase tickets so she could scan my Erlebniscard. Hooray for infamy!
Once I got back to the Hotel Post, I set myself onto the balcony of my hotel room and did some writing as well as enjoying watching people stroll along the lakeside. Honestly, such a lovely day!
