I feel cowardly but I've decided I can't bring myself to stay in Salzburg on my last night in Europe. It being Sunday, it would be almost impossible to get from Pertisau to Munich in time for my flight home so I had orginally decided to spend the final night in Salzburg and then catch the train. However today, for the first time, I caught the train from Austria to Germany and realised what a nightmare it would be (Salzburg to small border town, small border town to other small town, second small town to Munich) particularly as neither of the two small stations have elevators and I have only five minutes between trains so if I miss them I will miss my flight.
Given how small a thing this is in comparison to what those people are suffering who are the reason behind this minor disruption I feel rather pathetic and small.
And in case you are wondering, Salzburg is the only town in the region where this is happening. I can catch a direct train from Innsbruck to Munich without a problem. Oh, and I am staying at the Europa on my final night.
In other news, I visited several other sites in Salzburg today before leaving and heading for Oberammergau. The journey took about five hours so I only got to Oberammergau at 6.30pm, and at that point discovered that the museum is not open tomorrow. Boo. Here's hoping the bookshop has some good material.
And tomorrow I get to see a glacier! Stubai, here I come!
