History Boys - Scripps/Posner drabbles
These are four drabbles for the 13drabbles community. I'm going to do things backwards and post the table afterwards. In the meantime, here are Forgetfulness, Undone, Make Believe & Wars :)
Erm, I'm not giving these a summary because the summary would be almost as long as the drabble.

He blames it on his absent-mindedness. He’s constantly leaving half-finished thoughts in notebooks and written on paper napkins. It’s often only after he’s put on a fresh pot of coffee that he stumbles across his mug still half full. Still, he should have been able to remember this.
He doesn’t even realize he’s forgotten until he pulls out of their usual goodbye kiss and sees the look of panic in Posner’s eyes.
“Shit,” he mutters as he glances about to see Dakin and Timms staring openly at them.
“So we’re together,” he says needlessly and glares when Dakin starts to laugh.

He's gasping, panting actually as he moves inside Posner. He didn't think it would be like this, this beautiful mind-blowing act. He thought it would be needy, lust-filled, mindless and it is that too at times but it's more than that. It's the way Posner grips his back and whispers his name against his neck almost involuntarily it seems. It's all the soft noises Posner makes - each one filed away in the back of Scripps' mind for lonely nights - and the way he can see how Posner loves him just by looking into his eyes that makes him come undone.

They’re touching, Posner’s head resting on Scripps’ chest while he lightly strokes Posner’s hair but Posner feels like they’re a million miles apart. He can hear Scripps’ heartbeat even and this should make them close but he can feel how careful Scripps is with him since his breakdown. Still, Posner thinks, at least they don’t pretend it never happened.
“You are okay, right?” Scripps asks him suddenly, pausing momentarily in his stroking. Posner glances up, thinking no no no before wondering if he said he was okay, would it make it so?
“Yeah,” he says after a moment. It doesn’t.

They date other people for a while. They try to lose themselves in shrewd literary teaching assistants, and boys who smoke too much and women with long legs and seductive eyes. They take them places but never to their places - that spot down by the river where they first held hands or the bookshop where Posner used to work when they were first dating. They kiss them and do their best to mean it but it's no use. There's something lacking. It takes four months for them to realise that they may be waging war but they're both losing.
