Road to the Isles

A few weeks ago I went to an SCA event in Gwyntarian called Road to the Isles. The theme was, not surprisingly, the British Isles, and there was a bardic competition prominently featured. It was the most fun SCA event I've been to in years ( Read more... )

I've done a lot of traveling over the last few years and I've noticed a few things about the SCA. The large events have gotten very large. Very large and very busy. This is good, in that it shows the SCA is growing. The unfortunate side effect is that they are less relaxed just because there is so much more to take care of.

That's why sometimes you need to find yourself a small event. Something off the beaten path or opposite one of the major events. That's where you'll still find a lot of the relaxed attitudes that you're looking for.

Yeah, usually I only go to local (Alderford) events. I'm thinking I should try to get to more Gwyntarian events as well, since they're not that far away.
